ANNUAL REPORT 1996
SALINA PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES
The Salina Public Library Board of Trustees meets once each month for
a business meeting. They review minutes, hear public comments, meet
library staff, receive a report on the Friends of Library activities, approve
fmancial payments and review financial and statistical statements. They
also read a written report trom the Library Director and hear an oral report
and have time for questions.
Accomplishments for 1996 include:
* Signing an Interlocal Agreement with the City of Salina for financing tòr
a Renovation of the Library Building.
* Letting bids for renovation and signing contract with Harbin Construction
to remodel the Library.
* Approved a 3 % across the board increase to staff salary ranges.
* Authorized the signing of an Interlocal Agreement with the City for
a Revitalization District.
* Approved a 1/4 mill increase in the General Fund Budget for 1997.
* Switched employee health/dental insurance coverage by joining the
City of Salina's local government employee group.
* Re-bid the insurance coverage for the Library.
* Approved the publishing of an updated Employee Policy Handbook.
* Reviewed the annual financial audit of the Library.
* Passed a resolution naming the new meeting room The Prescott Room.
* Bid and purchased a new vehicle for the Library for the 1 st time in 13 years.
* Approved increased funding for technology development for the library
and attended an orientation session on the Internet.
* Conducted an annual performance evaluation of the Library Director.
* Welcomed new Board member Nancy Chandler and thanked departing
Library Board member Jan McMillen for her years of service.
* Held committee meetings for Goals & Objectives Committee, Finance
Committee and Interior Building Committee as needed.
Current Library Board: Jim Sullivan, Pres.;Billie Winkler, V-P; Janet Wilbur,
Sec.; Jack Howar~ Treas.; Roger Struble, Mary Jarvis, Nancy Chandler and
Mayor Evelyn Maxwell.
