RE: Annual Report to Commission on Library Board Activities
The Board of Trustees of the SaJ.ina Public Library met each month
during 1994. A list of mem bers and their attendance is attached. The
monthly agenda includes reports on the Friends, Central Kansas Library
System Reports by Helen Heath, Statistical and Financial Review, a
report from the Library Director and Committee reports, if they have
met. The standing committees of the Library Board are the Goals "
Objectives and the Budget/Finance Committee.
The principle topic of discussion through the year was the development
of schematic plans to increase the space available at the library. With
increased use of the facility. the 26 year old age of the building and
the increase in the size of the collections, including new collections that
were not a part of the original building plan, the need for more space
is strong. Schematic plans were completed and put on public display.
The Board finished the year discussing funding options for the project'
which could cost $1.8 million.
Other actions taken by the Library Board during 1994 include:
. Approval of the purchase and installation of a book security system
. Transfer of the General Fund to Sunflower Bank starting in 1995.
. Investment of Capital Improvement Funds in aT-Bill
. Acceptance of a clean 1993 financial audit by Kennedy" Coe
. Putting the 1994-96 financial audits out for bids.
. Study and approval of the 1995 budget
. Acceptance of the 3rd Bookdrop from the Friends - installed at
Dillon's Superstore
. Approval of internal security measures
. Policy review and update. notably lost book replacement costs
and Borrower's Privileges
. Hosted a Legislator's reception and library tour in January.
