about the "No Ball Ball" fundraiser. When expenses wen~ paid, the
Friends took in slightly under $10,000.00. They also discussed
purchasing book bags for resale.
DISCUSSION: Julie Linneman, Head of Children's, gave a presentation
on the plans for the 10:00 a.m. Grand Opening of the ne1N Children's
Department on May 31. Extensive advertising will be done to encourage
attendance of the Grand Opening. The Friends of the Library will have
their annual meeting at 9:30 a.m. on May 31, in the Prescott Room.

volunteer help on May 20, 21 & 22. The Children's Department will
close at noon on the 20th for this project and remain closed while the
move is underway.

The Prescott Room Policy was discussed by the Board.
97-13 On motion made by Jack Howard and seconded by Janet Wilbur
it was RESOLVED THAT: The Board accepts on second reading the Prescott
Room Policy. Motion passed. 4-24-97, p. 530.
FINANCIAL/STATISTICAL REPORT: Joe noted that March was a big month
financially because of the large payments on the construction project
paid out of the General Fund. The $310,000 borrowed on temporary
notes from the city for the renovation project will be received in
June.
The stats are still affected by the renovation pro:iect. Reserves
for library materials are an area that continues to increase.
LIBRARIAN'S REPORT: Joe reported that the Budget Committ:ee will meet
next month.
Approximately 25 old books were sold recently to a book dealer
for $500.00. The balance of the books would be good for the Friends
to have a silent auction with or sell at a book sale.
There are a number of homeless men who come to the library every
day to spend their time. On occasion they have intimidated patrons
using the library. For the most part however, they police themselves
and do not cause problems. We are observing the situation closely.
Next month we will discuss Child Safety on the Internet.
There is a change order from Harbin. Included in t:he order is a
deduction of $225.00 and one addition for $308.00 to pay for the pan
cover over electrical lines on a column in children's department. The
total change is an addition of $83.00.
