01-23-1997 Minutes -521- The regular monthly meeting of the Salina Public Library Board was held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, January 23, 1997, in the Campbell Room. The following Board members were present: Nancy Chandler, Jim Sullivan, Janet Wilbur, and Billie Winkler. Others present were: Karla Prickett, Arts Services Coordinator for the Arts and Humanities Commission, Joe McKenzie, and Cynthia Smull. Jim Sullivan called the meeting to order and asked that the presentation of the piece of art be made at this time. Karla Prickett presented a piece of art purchased at the Smoky Hill River Festival to be exhibited at the Library indefinitely. The Library already has a stained glass "Tweety Bird" which was exhibited in the Children's Department. These items are received from the Salina Arts and Humanities Commission for exhibit. Board members went on a tour of the lower level renovation to observe progress being made toward completion of the new Children's Department and the Prescott Room area. Jim asked if there were any changes in the minutes of the December meeting. No corrections were suggested. The minutes of the December 1996 meeting stand as written. PUBLIC COMMENTS: None DISCUSSION: Joe updated the Board on the Renovation Project. Joe passed out the change orders presented by the architect. The Board discussed the change orders. Joe wants to do more research on change order #3. Change order #2 will be revised. Not as many additional electrical outlets as first thought will be needed. The heating and cooling of the area may not be the problem first thought. Art thought a different approach could be used to control the cooling in the computer room area. The Board discussed the Children's Department Grand opening. The opening is tentatively set for Saturday, May 3, 1997. Janet Wilbur will be the Board representative to the Grand Opening Committee.
