The regular monthly meeting of the Salina Public Library Board of Trustees was held at
7:00 a.m. on June 20, 2017, in the Tech Center.
The following Board members were present: Mary Lemon, Neal Zouzas, David Greiser,
Karen Bonar. Brendon Burke, Kay Crawford and Phil Bowman. Others present were Joe
McKenzie and Sandra Wilcox
MINUTES: Neal Zouzas asked for any changes or additions to the May Board meeting
minutes.
17-11 On a motion made by David Greiser and seconded by Karen Bonar , it was
RESOLVED THAT: The Board of Trustees of the Salina Public Library approves the
minutes of the May Board meeting with correction of those in attendance. Motion passed.

PUBLIC COMMENTS: None
EXECUTIVE SESSION: Director's Evaluation
The Board adjourned into executive session at 7:00 for 10 minutes. The Executive Session
® ended at 7:10. The President will review the results of the evaluations with Joe.
Joe answered questions from the Board.
DISCUSSION: Director Retirement
Neal spoke to the Board about starting a search committee. The Board feels that five
individuals would be a good number. Two Board Members, a past Board Member, Library
HR Director and a Friends Member.
Neal Zouzas and Karen Bonar will serve from the Board and Sandy Wilcox as Library HR.
They will ask a previous Board Member and a Friends Member to serve.
2018 Budget
Joe spoke to the Board about the 2018 budget. We will need to approve our budget for
publication next month and have a final vote on the budget in August.
Prescott Room Project
® Joe handed out information to the Board about the possible Prescott Room update.

Policy Update- Materials donation policy- 2nd reading
17-12 . On a motion made by David Greiser and seconded by Karen Bonar it was
RESOLVED THAT: The Board of Trustees of the Salina Public Library approves this
policy upon 2nd reading as written. Motion passed Pg 1116 6/20/17
FINANCIAL:
We are in lint with our financials for the year.
STATISTICAL REPORT:
Things start to pick up in May when school lets out. The number of incidents are down
from last month.
LIBRARIAN'S REPORT:
Duane Grace from the Building Authority is proposing exterior improvements to the
buildings in our complex. He is wondering if the Library would like to be involved in this
project. We will receive more information on cost and scope.
Joe announced his retirement effective 12/31/17.
NEW BUSINESS AND BOARD COMMENTS:
Use of the Learning Center as a polling place. The County Clerk feels like it would be a
good location.
