The tJrban Renewal Agency of Sa.lina completed a major portion of t'eal
estate purchases :':!,nd relocation of families and businesses from the
Northeast Industrial Park Urban i(enewal Project during 1970. 75 parcels
of real estate were purchased, with owners recehd.ng $420,618.24.
26 families, 12 single individuals, and 5 businesses were relocated.
Payments for relocation expenses, exclusive of amoWlts paid for real
estate acquisition, amounted to $88,648.64. The Urban Renewal Agency
assisted in the purchase of 24 of the 26 homes. Severa,! rami lies who
formerly rented were able to purchase homes for the first time.
151 structures were demolis~ed during the year.

appraisals have been Made by two independent, professional appraisers.
These appraisers utilize several methods, including comt)é~rable market
sales, reporductio!1 cost, depr.ecL:.tion, anñ :functional obsole'5cence i"
r\r::iving at an appr<",isal price for each parcel. If prices offered by
the agency are not aCc€p1;<,ble to the O',\1ner, a c(\nõemnation action, under
the right of eminent domain, is filed by the agency, anð a court determines
the value of the parcel.

land, the City of Salina Must install new streets, water and sewers.
Privately owned utilities must be relocated, j,n some instances. The
present platting of most of the ared is 5naaequate for industrial pur?oses.
Remaining at the end of 1970 to be acquired were 31 parcels. Yet to be
relocated ~...ere 3 fami lies, 4 individuals, 5 businesses and 2 cburches.
These included 2 families, 3 individuals, 1 business and 1 church,
