Mr. Stark moved that a Resolution be passed by the Board of
CoîD.missioners of the Urban Rerwwal Agency of SéÜina, Kansas,
th;:." t the CO"lCli ss:Ï. on, as a w;',olo, go on record as opposing
House Bill #1257, sponsored by t-1esSTS. Loux, Holderman,
t.1adden and Dugan, and that ';;w Co;nmissioners resp2ctfully
ask the Salina City Commission to notify the legislators
that they, too, are opposed to House Bill #1257; also,
th<.\t the Urban Renewal Agency be author ized to WT i te letters,
wi th excerpts of the minutes of February 11, 1971, to
Norris Olson, Representatives Robert Stark, George Jellinek
and John Carlin, and Senator Ernest Strahan and each me:nber
of the Local Affair s Com!TIi ttoe, sta, ting the pos i tion of
the Urban Renewal Commission on House Bill #J257.
The reasons given were:
1.
That in all probability, no further Federal Urban
Renewa~ funds would be allotted to cities in Kansas,
as no guarantee could be made for the successful
completion of a project.
2.
Residents of an urban renewal project area would have
no assurance that some properties would be acquired,
that the urban renewal plan would then be repealed,
and the remaining occupants left stranded.
