KANSAS 566 1:Z CITY MAN;\GER'S OFFICE Dear City and County Officials: As Chairman of the Kansas Citizens Advisory Commitcee on Alcohol Abuse and Alco- holism, and with the support of my constituents, I would like to take this opportunity to share some information with you regarding the newly acquired Senat': Bill 467 monies. As you mayor may not know, the Citizens Advisory Committee is a federally man- dated body designated to advise the State Alcoholism Authority on the formulation and implementation of the alcohol and drug services plan for the State of Kansas. The Com- mittee is representative of the entire state, maintains advocacy for all special inter- est groups, and is vitally interested in the maintenance of alcohol and drug abuse ser- vices for the benefit of all Kansas. The decline of available federal and state dollars for alcohol programs has uS very concerned and, therefore, our vital interest in S. B. 467. The Citizens Advisory Committee is very pleased with those individuals and asso- ciations in the field of alcoholism who worked so diligently in the creation and sup- port of this legislation. We, of course, are also pleased that loca:. governments will benefit from the remaining two-thirds of the funds created by S. B. ¿~67. In review~ng the legislation, we are to understand that the monies are intended to support and not supplant community alcohol programs, and that is the part that excit,~s us. ~~owing that new monies will be available to enhance existing efforts curren~:ly facing budget deficits, as well as monies for new community alcohol programs is most reassuring to us. We recognize that many community programs are in need of funds to maintain their efforts and we feel privileged to have 467 monies available to alcohol programs in Kansas communities. The Citizens Committee is also eager to have the opportunity for a closer working relationship with local governments in this much needed arena. We have high hopes that all goes well and we will not see a decline in the existing ser- vices available to Kansans suffering from alcoholism or the potential thereof. I thank you for this opportunity and if the Kansas Citizens Advisory Committee can be of any assistance to you, please let uS know. Most Sincerely, ,('\ IÎ U ~ u.--~/tU2./ Dick DuPree, CAC, Chai:=man Kansas Citizens Adviso~::-y Committee on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism DD:cg cc: Citizens Committees AL.COHOL. 8< ORVG Þ.SVSE SECTION, 2700 WEST SIXT~ STREET; SIOOL.;:: eVIL.DING, TOP'iKA.
