The Committee reached its conclusions after holding 11 PUblic hearings, meeting with key representatives of interested groups and researching current literature. The most frequent recommendation we received was that there should be substantially increased efforts in prevention, education and public awareness. We also concluded that if we are to change public attitudes that it is acceptable to drink and drive, we must take a long-term comprehensive approach to the public. This includes a continuous high level of public awareness and a perception that drinking drivers ~"ill be apprehended and pay the consequences in Kansas. We are distributing limited copies and/or synopsis of the Final Report to decision makers in Kansas. If you need additional copies, please feel free to reprint them as there is no copyright. If you have additional questions, comments or suggestions, please send them to: The Governor's Committee on Drinking and Driving P.O. Box 4052 Topeka, KS 66604 Sincerely, *~ Cha i rman HR:JW:ah
