Dear Colleague:
After nine months of study, the Kansas Governor's Committee on Drinking and
Driving has given its findings and recommendations in a W9 page report to
Governor John Carlin.
The Committee reached its conclusions after holding 11 PUblic hearings,
meeting with key representatives of interested groups and researching current
literature.
The most frequent recommendation we received was that there should be
substantially increased efforts in prevention, education and public awareness.
We also concluded that if we are to change public attitudes that it is
acceptable to drink and drive, we must take a long-term comprehensive approach
to the public. This includes a continuous high level of public awareness and
a perception that drinking drivers ~"ill be apprehended and pay the
consequences in Kansas.
We are distributing limited copies and/or synopsis of the Final Report to
decision makers in Kansas. If you need additional copies, please feel free to
reprint them as there is no copyright.
