Dear Dr. Hodges:
Enclosed is a copy of the third edition of our Teacher's Resource Information
Manual (TRIM), which contains information on a wide variety of resources
available to teachers, other school personnel, and interested local citizens
to assist them in their efforts to implement primary prevention programming in
the schools. Although emphasis is on the school setting, most of these
resources could be used in other settings as well.
We would like to call your particular attention to the descriptions of five
primary prevention training workshops available from our agency, to be found
in the "Other Sources" section. The names of these ~~orkshops are A 1 coho 1 and
Drug Information, Basic Orientation to Prevention, Community Development,
Positive Self Concept Development, and Working With Schools. Since all local
alcohol/drug citizens advisory councils and committees are in a position to
review funding applications for local alcohol/drug services and/or to develop
such services for their communities, we felt that your members might wish to
be made aware of training opportunities available, either to enhance their own
effectiveness or as resources to their communities.
Our agency will supply trainers and materials free of charge to any individual
or group who can guarantee a minimum of 10 participants (maximum of 30), and
can provide an appropriate meeting place. Although the workshops are designed
to be presented in one full day, one and one half days, or two full days
consecut i ve ly, they can be adapted to some other schedu 1 i ng arrangement that
would better meet the needs of participants.
Basic Orientation to Prevention is also presented as part of a larger package
available from our agency, Core Knowledge. This package includes five days of
training plus approximately sixteen hours of videocassette tapes on
pharmacology of psychoactive drugs, including alcohol.
Both Core Knowl edge and the fi ve prevention workshops have been approved fol~
social work continuing education credits. Detailed course outlines are
available on request.
