01-20-2015 Minutes 1045 • The•regular monthly meeting of the Salina Public Library Board of Trustees was held at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 20, 2015, in the Campbell Room. The following Board members were present: Mary Lemon, Mary Shaffer, Christi Manley, Karen Bonar, Mary Lemon,Neal Zouzas,David Grieser and Karma DeForest. Others present were Joe McKenzie, Sandra Wilcox, Angela Allen and Mike Wilson, the observer for the League of Women Voters. MINUTES: Christi Manley asked for any changes or additions to the December Board meeting minutes. 15-01 On a motion made by Karma DeForest and Seconded by Mary Lemon it was RESOLVED THAT: The Board of Trustees of the Salina Public Library approves the minutes of the December Board meeting as written. Motion passed. Pg 1045, 01/20/15 PUBLIC COMMENTS: DISCUSSION/ACTION • Air Conditioning Project: The bids came in last Thursday afternoon. There was a fairly large discrepancy between the lowest and highest bids. Lowest bid came in at 5518,953 with Glassman from Hays. 15-02 On a motion made by Neal Zouzas and Seconded by Mary Lemon it was RESOLVED THAT: The Board of Trustees of the Salina Public Library approves that the Board accept the bid from Glassman on the HVAC project. Motion passed. Pg 1045, 01/20/15 FINANCIAL REPORIENTATION: Angela Allen from Information Services Angela spoke to the Board about Information Services. Their department oversees the Campbell Room. They staff the information desk and each one of the full time employees in this department take about one third of their time at that desk. The computers in Information Services area are to be used for research. People also use them to fill out applications online. Barbara Mulivhill heads up a genealogy club. When Nancy Reese retired Information Services took on collection development for the adult collection. We do also take patron requests for materials. They also handle weeding of materials. Connie Hocking handles our interlibrary loan function to acquire books for patrons from • other libraries that we might not have. She also shares our materials with other libraries. They have just moved spanish books out of the regular collection and into their own area. Sunflower e-library use continues to grow. She also spoke to the Board about databases we provide. 1046- FINANCIAL REPORT: We transferred $160,000 to the Capital Improvement,Fynd at the end of the year. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT: The Greater Salina Community Foundation's Match Madness will be coming up and they have $75,000 to match donations. Joe asked the Board if we want to participate in this program. The Board suggested that the Friends of the Library participate in this program. Staff took a bus to Great Bend for our in service day and had a great day. CLASS begins registration today. Lori will speak to the Board next month about community engagement. STATISTICS: 8,830 items were weeded from the collection in,2014. E-Book circulation continues to grow.
