02-18-2014 Minutes 1022 • The regular monthly meeting of the Salina Public Library Board of Trustees was held at 7:00 • a.m. on Tuesday, February 18th, in the Tech Center Conference Room. The following Board members were present: Mary Shaffer, Christi Manley, Karen Bonar, David Greiser and Randy Hardy . Others present were Joe McKenzie, Sandra Wilcox, Lori Berezovsky and Mike Wilson, the observer for the league of women voters. PUBLIC COMM ENTS: FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY: Friends are having a book sale this weekend. ORIENTATION: Lori Berezovsky - Outreach Lori Berezovsky spoke to the Board about Library Outreach. We currently offer home delivery to about 21 patrons. It is provided to people that are physically limited in their ability to come to the library. Every other month we deliver books to 9 rotating collection locations throughout the community. Lori helps with a program called Bitty Bites through CAPS and the Food Bank. Our little libraries will soon be installed at the YMCA, KWU, Hawthorne Park and Jerry Ivy Park. In March, Lori will begin doing some Lobby Stops. The first stop will be at Drury Place. She will take materials that they can check out and hopefully ® make cards and visit with people. Pop up libraries will be popping up at soccer games this . fall. Planning has started for Salina Reads again this year. A committee is in the process of choosing the book. Our first trivia night brought in about 36 people. We have another planned for April. We will be starting CLASS for kids this Fall. FINANCIAL REPORT: - We received our first appropriation of the year. It looks like we may be seeing some savings on our light and heat bill due to the change in our lighting fixtures and bulbs. The Board had questions on several expenses. STATISTICAL REPORT: Numbers of questions to our Information Services staff seem to be up. The number of incident reports are down. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT: We have two job openings right now. Network Administrator and PT Cire Clerk. We are a site for book discussions for Kansas Reads. We had our first art reception in Youth Services and it went very well. Joe did some research about what it would cost to put in a parking lot • across the street. It would cost about S35,000 in concrete work and the owner of the lot would also like to get 535,000 for the lot. Mary Shaffer asked about just using the lot we already own behind the Learning Center. 1023 We were open on Presidents Day so our staff receives a floating holiday for that day. Joe will be on vacation during spring break. Our poetry series will be held on Tuesday evenings in April. Location has changed to the back room of Martinelli's.
