MINUTES
SALINA PARK ADVISORY BOARD
CITY COMMISSION ROOM
July 10, 1979
4: 00 P.M.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Dale Cole, Helen Crawford, Jerry Brown, John Heline,
Ralph Ricklefs , Sr. , and Jerry Waddell.
MEMBERS ABSENT: Linda Ellison, Ann Jett, and Joel Wentz .
STAFF PRESENT: Rufus L. Nye, City Manager; Curt Wood, Administrative
Assistant; John Estes, Director of General Services ;
Bob Ash, Park Superintendent; and Linda Webb, Secretary.
OTHERS PRESENT: Ruth Ascher and Ivey Marsh, LWV; Glen Van Cleef and
Harold Crowthers , representing the Municipal Band;
Ben Sellers and several interested persons on the park
discussion items.
Chairman Cole called the meeting to order at 4: 05 p.m.
Moved by Jerry Waddell, seconded by Helen Crawford that the minutes of -the
May 8, 1979 , meeting be approved. Motion adopted unanimously.
OLD BUSINESS: A. Report on Ivey Plaque. t .
Bob Ash reported that the price of the plaque is $1, 350; $850 of which /D
is for placing a picture on the plaque. Several Board members were con-
cerned about the $850 cost for the picture. .
Bob Ash will check locally on a price and submit the information at the
next meeting.
LOLD BUSINESS: B. and C. Report on tennis court lighting and yearly cost
to light tennis courts.
Bob Ash recommended installing manual, push button controls at the Sunset
and Oakdale tennis courts for the price quoted by Merriman and Hoeffner
of $1, 350 for the courts in each park, a total of $2, 700 . He also recom-
mends at a future date installing a master control which would shut off
the lights at midnight or some predetermined time . This would be additional
expense above the $1, 350 quoted price.
Bob Ash reported that the yearly cost to operate the lights in 1978 was
$1, 505 at Oakdale and $509 at Sunset, a total of $2 , 014 . This reflects
.a cost of about. $1. 50 per court per hour.
Moved by Jerry Waddell, seconded by Helen Crawford, that the Board recommend
to the City Commission that manual, push button controls be installed at
Sunset and Oakdale Park tennis courts at $1, 350 for each park. Motion
adopted unanimously.
