03-19-2013 Minutes• -991 - The regular monthly meeting of the Salina Public Library Board of Trustees was held at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, in the Tech Center Conference Room. The following Board members were present: Karma DeForest, Mary Shaffer, Mary Bender, Christi Manley and Karen Bonar. Others present were Joe McKenzie, Sandy Wilcox, and Mike Wilson with observer for the league of women voters. Karma DeForest called the meeting to order MINUTES: Karma DeForest asked for any changes or additions to the February Board meeting minutes. 13 -04 On a motion made by Christi Manley seconded by Karen Bonar it was RESOLVED THAT: The Board of Trustees of the Salina Public Library approves the minutes of the February Board meeting as corrected. Motion passed. P991. 03/19/2013 PUBLIC COMMENTS: None FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY The Friends have thirteen applications for scholarships, so the scholarship committee will have some work to narrow down the applications. DISCUSSION /ACTION 2012 Financial Audit: Joe spoke to the Board about the audit and went over the results. He also went over some financial comparisons from previous years. He answered questions from the Board. Nominating Committee: Karma asked for volunteers for officer positions. Mary Bender said that she would probably be turning in her resignation from the Board due to the fact that her school is moving and she would have time restraints due to the location and travel time. Some names were discussed and Karma will come back to next meeting with nominations Director Evaluation Process • We need to start the evaluation process. Christi Manley offered to receive the evaluations. A They,will be due back to her by April 2nd. results and report back to the Board FINANCIAL REPORT: Karma and Christi will then meet to discuss the -992- Just two months into this years budget, spending is on track for the year. STATISTICAL REPORT: February is a fairly average month. There is a mistake in the Youth Services computer use numbers, the number should be closer to 900. Meeting rooms use continues to be high. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT: Joe spoke about how the tax legislations regarding taxes on farm equipment could effect our tax appropriations. Also some changes may be coming in conceal and carry law and how it pertains to public buildings. Spring break programs are in full force this week. We have an architectlooking at•our lighting project. They are counting the fixtures and giving recommendations on the best type of lighting to switch to. We have two new employees this month Ehshiva Diaz will be starting in Adult Circulation and Cara Ernzen in Information Services. Both are bi- lingual. The Poetry series will be starting April 9th. Ruth Moritz is the one who handles the poet contracts for this program. The Salina Reads committee is still working on book selection. Joe also spoke to the Board about most popular books in circulation. Joe has two people that have approached him about possible options to run the coffee shop. He is waiting on business plans from both of them. BOARD COMMENTS: Karen Bonar asked about the mini library or mobile library projects. Mary Shaffer asked if the Library was going to participate in Discover Salina Naturally event.
