CITY OF SALINA, KANSAS
SPECIAL MEETING OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
June 1, 2012
8:00 a.m.
The Special Meeting of the Board of Commissioners was called to order at 8:15 a.m. in
Room 107, City -County Building. A roll call was taken followed by the Pledge of
Allegiance and a moment of silence.
There were present:
Mayor Norman M. Jennings, Presiding Officer
Commissioner Kaye J. Crawford
Commissioner Aaron Householter
Absent: Commissioner Samantha P. Angell
Commissioner Barb Shirley
comprising a quorum of the Board, also present:
Jason A. Gage, City Manager
Greg Bengtson, City Attorney
Lieu Ann Elsey, City Clerk
ADMINISTRATION
(3.1) Salina -Saline County Health Department facility discussion.
Jason Gage, City Manager, explained the current condition of the building
structure, possible temporary locations, and the additional operation costs.
Greg Bengtson, City Attorney, explained that the Salina Regional Health Center is
willing to accommodate and the executive committee of the board of trustees have
endorsed the concept. Mr. Bengtson also noted that the City Commission can
authorize to continue to advance the lease arrangement as much as possible.
A discussion followed between Mayor Jennings, Mr. Gage, Yvonne Gibbons, Salina -
Saline County Health Department Director, Commissioner Householter, and Mr.
Bengtson regarding the Health Department's budget, funding allocation, relocation
expenses, ownership and maintenance responsibilities of the building, and the
future lease agreement.
Mayor Jennings thanked the County, City and Health Department staff for working
together.
Moved by Commissioner Householter, seconded by Commissioner Crawford, to authorize
the City Manager to advance the leasing of a temporary facility and to monitor the budget
and expenses for relocation of the Health Department. Aye: (3). Nay: (0). Motion carried.
ADJOURNMENT
Moved by Commissioner Householter, seconded by Commissioner Crawford, that the
regular meeting of the Board of City Commissioners be adjourned. Aye: (3 ay: (0).
Motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 8:29 p.m.
