89-9330 PoliceKUM-Cox Printing —Salina, K (Published in The Salina Journal August /�, 1989) ORDINANCE NUMBER 89-9330 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE SALINA CODE BY ENACTING ARTICLE I, DIVISION 1 OF CHAPTER 30 OF THE SALINA CODE PERTAINING TO CANINE OPERATIONS OF THE SALINA POLICE DEPARTMENT. BE IT ORDAINED by the Governing Body of the City of Salina, Kansas: Section 1. That the Salina Code is hereby amended by adding Division 1 of Article 1 of Chapter 30 which is hereby enacted to read as follows: "CHAPTER 30 ARTICLE I DIVISION 1. CANINE OPERATIONS "Section 30-1. Canine corps. Any dog used by the City of Salina, Kansas, whether owned, leased, rented or borrowed for the purpose of performing duties with the police department of the City shall be commissioned as a member of the Canine Corps and shall perform such duties as may be designated by the Chief of Police or the officer in charge of such unit who has been delegated the responsiblity for the handling and supervision of such animal. "Section 30-2. Abuse prohibited. It shall be unlawful for any person to strike, hit, beat, abuse, tease, harass, pet or assault any dog being used by the City for the purpose of performing the duties of a police dog regardless of whether the dog is on or off duty. "Section 30-3. Interference prohibited. It shall be unlawful for any person to interfere with a dog being used by the police department or attempt to interfere with the handler of the dog in such a manner as to inhibit, restrict or deprive the handler of his or her control of the dog." Section 2. That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption and publication once in the official city newspaper.
