SUBJECT: Juvenile Detention Facility
A meeting of the Building Committee for the above subject facilities
was held in the Police Department conference room at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday,
February 5, 1975. The purpose of this meeting.was to review the final plans
and specifications for the remodeling of the police building to accommodate
separate juvenile detention facilities and joint booking facilities between
the Salina Police Department and the Saline County Sheriffs' Department for
booking both juveniles and adults. The committee was also to consider
letters dated January 24, 1975 and January 27, 1975 from Francis M. Drake
to the Steering Committee of the Citizens' Advisory Committee.
In regard to the plans and specifications for construction of this
facility, the committee unanimously recommended acceptance of the plans
and specifications and the awarding of a construction contract as soon
as possible.
In regard to Mr. Drake's letters, the committee felt that most of
his concerns related to this project were.taken care of in the planning
process with the exception of cost. The committee also felt that
Item No. 3, "Welfare of Prisoners" in the letter dated January 24, 1975,
was a valid suggestion and should be acted on but probably not with
Community Development funds.
