SOX 746 ,Safina, Xarziai 6,lgo1 January 12, 1968 Mr. O. K. Webster 316 South 11th Salina, Kansas 67401 Dear Mr. Webster: This will acknowledge receipt of your letter dated January 8, 1968, concerning the transfer of several items of antique farm machinery to the City of Salina. You are to be complimented for the time and effort you have expended in accumulating this collection. I should advise you, however, that formal acceptance of the collection on behalf of the City can be done only by the elected City Commissioners. As of this date, only one of them has been able to view the collection. As soon as the others can do likewise, I'm sure they will instruct me to relay their deci- sion to you. Very truly yours, NDO/mb Norris D. Olson City Manager MEM6ER - KANSAS LEAGUE OF P4Ury91LIP1-17t[, - NATIONAL LEAGUF OF CITIES C " I A- 316 South lith Salina, Kansas January 8, 1968 City Commissioners Salina, Kansas Dear Sirs: Soon after I wrote the letter of April 3, 1967 to the City of Salina, many people in Central Kansas began to give me many historical items if I would haul them and give them to the Historical Society of Salina. The little hobby grew to be a big one taking many weeks of trucking and storing them in one of Salina's old air port hangers. The collection is very well balanced in many items from hand tools to threshing machines. I do not want to awn or run a historical place and 95% of the items in the old hanger building was given in behalf of the Salina Historical Society. The other 5% I bought to balance out collection. There is one sulky rake in the hanger which I would like to keep with the collection in my own building. This is to inform the Salina City Commissioners that the above Historical Collection in a hanger at the old air port belongs to the City of Salina. A list of donors and items can be furnished if you desire. Yours truly, ohl,Iz4& 0. K. Webster. January 4, 1968 TO: Mr. Norris D. Olson, City Manager FROM: Bill Harris SUBJECT: Antique Farm Machinery, Stored at Old Airport for Mr. 0. K. Webster. I returned the telephone call to Mr. Webster this morning. He was wanting to know if we had started dismantling the hangar where the machinery is stored, and if we had another location in mind for storage of it. I told him I had been on vacation and was not up to date on the progress of dismantling the buildings. I later checked with John Estes and he told me they had not started dismantling the hangar where the machinery is stored. However, the other square hangar is completely down. They want to begin on the other one as soon as the weather permits. He has in mind moving the machinery into the large hangar for temporary storage unless permanent storage elsewhere becomes available by that time. I pointed out to Mr. Webster that the City had not incurred any obligation for care or storage of the equipment. I read to him his letter of April 3, 1967, and your reply of May 23, 1967. He stated at that time he did not have nearly as much of the machinery as he now has. He wants to give it to the City now, and will help in restoring it. He's in hopes the Court House will be converted to a museum and the equipment will go on display there. In order to get this matter settled, I suggested he write to the City Commission stating that he would like to donate the equipment now to the City or Salina Historical Society. If the City Commission accepts the offer, then it becomes our responsibility and we will take care of it. If they decline the offer, it's his and will be up to him to arrange for storage and moving. This he agreed to do right away. NORRIS O. OLSON CITY MANAGER II FIFTH AND ASH STREETS fLt y o j <-Sa Baa. 13O% 746 SALINA• KANSAS 67401 May 23, 1967 Mr. O. K.
