Be it ordained by the Mayor and Councilmen of the city of Salina, Kansas. Section 1. That the owner or owners of any real estate abutting on the west side of Eighth Street between South Street and Prescott Avenue in the City of Salina are hereby required to build or cause to be built on or before the first day of June 1886, a sidewalk in front of such real estate on said street in manner as specified in section 5 of this ordinance and to the satisfaction of the committee on sidewalks of said city. Section 2. That the owner or owners of any real estate abutting on the west side of Fifth Street between Pine and Ash Streets in the City of Salina are hereby required to build or cause to be built on or before the 1St day of June 1886, a sidewalk in front of such real estate on said street, in manner as specified in Section 6 of this ordinance and to the satisfaction of the committee on sidewalks of said city. Section 3. That the owner or owners of any real estate abutting on the west side of Tenth Street between Walnut and South Streets in the City of Salina, are hereby required to build or cause to be built on or before the 10th day of June 1886, a sidewalk in front of such real estate on said street, in manner as specified in Section 6 of this ordinance and to the satisfaction of the committee on sidewalks of said city. Section 4. That the owner or owners of any real estate abutting on the south side of Ash Street between Ninth Street and Eleventh Street in the City of Salina are hereby required to build or cause to be built on or before the 1St day of June 1886, a sidewalk in front of such real estate on said street, in manner as specified in Section 6 of this ordinance and to the satisfaction of the committee on sidewalks of said city. Section 5. That the sidewalk provided for in Section 1 of this ordinance shall be or even grade throughout as now determined by the City Engineer and shall be six feet wide of black concrete pavement or asphalt and or of a good quality of common pine plank two inches thick spiked with twenty penny nails and supported by three 2x6 inch stringers well lapped and spiked with twenty penny nails. The stingers shall be laid upon flat stones placed at intervals of not more than four feet. Section 6. That the sidewalks herein provided for in sections two, three, and four of this ordinance shall be of even grade throughout as now determined by the City Engineer and shall be five feet and four inches wide of block concrete pavement, or asphalt and or of a good quality of common pine plank two inches thick spiked with twenty penny nails, and supported by three 2x6 inch stringers were lapped and spiked with twenty penny nails. The stringers shall be laid upon flat stones placed at intervals of not more than four feet. Section 7. The committee on sidewalks shall as soon as practicable after the 1St day of June 1886 cause sidewalks to be constructed between the limits specified in Sections 1, 2, 3 or 4 and in the manner specified in sections 5 and 6 of this ordinance in part of all lots and premises whose names have failed to comply with the forgoing requirements and shall upon this proceedings to the Mayor and Council is initiating which report shall be filed and presented by the City Clerk. Section 8. The expense of building such sidewalk by the said committee shall be assessed against the real estate abutting thereon and collected as other taxes on each real estate. Section 9. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after its publication in the Saline County Journal. Approved April 19, 1886
