Ordinance No. 486
An ordinance establishing grades on Iron Avenue from the west end of the bridge over the Smoky
Hill River to the east city limits, Third Street from Iron Avenue north and south to the Smoky Hill River;
Second Street from Iron Avenue south to the Smoky Hill River; Front Street from Johnstown Avenue, north
to Smoky Hill River and south to entrance of County Park; Oakdale Avenue from Johnstown Avenue to
County Park; Gypsum Avenue from Front Street to Penn Avenue; Eighth Street from South Street to
Prescott Avenue; Seventh Street from South Street to Weil Place; Weil Place from Seventh to Eighth
Street, Eleventh Street from Iron Avenue to Walnut Street, Park Place from Front Street to Oakdale
Avenue.
Be it ordained by the Mayor and Councilmen of the city of Salina, Kansas.
Section 1. That a grade be and is herby established on Iron Avenue commencing at the west end
of the bridge over the Smoky Hill River at an elevation of one hundred and three (103) feet; thence east
160 feet to an elevation of one hundred and three (103) feet; thence east by a uniform grade seventy feet
to an elevation of ninety eight (98.0) feet; thence by a uniform grade to Third Street to an elevation of
Ninety-seven (97) feet; thence by a uniform grade to Second Street to an elevation of Ninety seven and five
tenths (97.5) feet; thence by a uniform grade to Front Street to an elevation of Ninety-eight (98) feet; thence
by a uniform grade to Oakdale Avenue to an elevation of Ninety-six and six tenths (96.6) feet; thence by a
uniform grade to Penn Avenue to an elevation of Ninety-six and six tenths (96.6) feet; thence by a uniform
grade to Columbia Avenue to an elevation of Ninety-four and seven tenths (94.7) feet; thence by a uniform
grade to Kansas Avenue to an elevation of Ninety-four and seven tenths (94.7) feet; thence by a uniform
grade to the present city limits to an elevation of Ninety-four (94) feet.
Section 2. That a grade be and is hereby established on Third Street from Iron Avenue, north and
south to the Smoky Hill River. Commencing at the intersection of Iron Avenue and Third Street at an
elevation of Ninety-seven (97) feet, thence by a uniform grade south to the River of five tenths of a foot fall
to 300 feet of distance and commencing at Iron Avenue with the same elevation and running north on a
uniform grade of one footfall for each one hundred feed of distance in the Smoky Hill River.
Section 3. That a grade be and is hereby established on Second Street from Iron Avenue, south to
the Smoky Hill River, commencing at the intersection of Iron Avenue and Second Street and an elevation of
Ninety-seven and five tenths (97.5); thence by a uniform rise of twenty-five hundredth (0.25) feet to one
hundred feet of distance to Smoky Hill River.
Section 4. That a grade be and is hereby established on Front Street from Johnstown Avenue to
the entrance of the County Park and north to the Smoky Hill River; commending at the intersection of
Johnstown Avenue and Front Street at the elevation of Ninety-six and five tenths (96.5) feet; thence by a
uniform grade to Iron Avenue to an elevation of Ninety-eight (98) feet; thence by a uniform grade to
Gypsum Avenue to an elevation of Ninety-eight and five tenths (98.5) feet. Thence by a uniform grade to
Park Place to an elevation of Ninety-nine feet; thence by a uniform grade to the entrance of the County
Park to an elevation of one hundred and one feet, commending at Johnstown Avenue and Front Street at
an elevation of Ninety-six and five tenths (96.5) feet; thence north to the Smoky Hill River on a uniform
grade of two tenths of a feet full to one hundred feet of distance.
Section 5. That a grade be and is hereby established on Oakdale Avenue from Johnstown Avenue
to the County Park; commencing at the intersection of Oakdale Avenue and Johnstown Avenue at an
elevation of Ninety-five and five tenths (95.5) feet; thence by a uniform grade to Iron Avenue to an elevation
of Ninety-six and six tenths feet; thence by a uniform grade to Gypsum Avenue to an elevation of Ninety-
seven and eight tenths (97.8) feet; thence by a uniform grade to Park Place to an elevation of Ninety-nine
and five tenths feet; thence by a uniform grade to Smoky Hill Drive to all elevation of one hundred (100.0)
feet; thence by a uniform grade to the County Park to an elevation of Ninety-nine and five tenths (99.5) feet.
Section 6. That a grade be and is hereby established on Gypsum Avenue from Front Street to
Penn Avenue; commencing at the intersection of Gypsum Avenue and Front Street at an elevation of
Ninety-eight and five tenths (98.5) feet; thence by a uniform grade to Oakdale Avenue to an elevation of
ninety-seven and eight tenths (97.8) feet; thence by a uniform grade to Penn Avenue to an elevation of
Ninety-seven (97.0) feet.
Section 7. That a grade be used and is hereby established on Eighth Street from South Street to
Prescott Avenue; commencing at the intersection of South and Eighth Streets at an elevation of One
Hundred and four (104.0) feet; thence to an elevation of one hundred and for and nine tenths (104.9) feet;
thence by a uniform grade to Prescott Avenue to an elevation of one hundred and five and eight tenths
(105.8) feet;
Section 8. That a grade be and is hereby established on Seventh Street from South Street to Weil
Place; commencing at the intersection of Seventh and south Streets at an elevation of one hundred and
three and six tenths feet; thence by a uniform grade to Weil Place to an elevation of one hundred and five
(105) feet.
Section 9. That a grade be and is hereby established on Weil Place from Seventh to Eighth
Streets; commencing at the intersection of Weil Place and Seventh Street at an elevation of one hundred
and five (105) feet; thence by a uniform grade to Eighth Street to an elevation of one hundred and four and
nine tenths (104.9) feet.
Section 10. That a grade be and is hereby established on Eleventh Street from Iron Avenue to
Walnut Street; commencing at the intersection of Iron Avenue and Eleventh Street at an elevation of one
hundred and one and five tenths (101.0) feet; thence by a uniform grade to Walnut Street to an elevations
of one hundred and four (104) feet;
Section 11. That a grade be and is hereby established on Park Place from Front Street to Oakdale
Avenue; commencing at the intersection of Front Street and Park Place at an elevation of Ninety-nine (99)
feet; thence by a uniform grade to Oakdale Avenue to an elevation of Ninety-nine and vie tenths (99.5) feet.
Section 12. That all elevations mentioned in Sections 1 to 11 inclusion of this ordinance can
referred to the City Bench Mark as established by ordinance and to the profile on file in the City Engineer's
Office.
Section 13. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after its publication once in
the Saline County Journal.
