506 Appropriations4 -el A IV o qc5?, 6t o Ordinance No. 506 An ordinance providing for the construction of sidewalks on Santa Fe and Elm Street in the City of Salina, Kansas. Be it ordained by the Mayor and Councilmen of the City of Salina. Section 1. That the owner or owners abutting of any real estate abutting on the east side of Seventh Street between Ash and North Streets and on the north side of Elm Street, between Santa Fe Avenue and Seventh Street are hereby required to build or cause to be built a sidewalk in front of or adjoining such real estate, on or before the first day of September 1886 in manner as specified in section 2 of this ordinance and to the satisfaction of the committee on sidewalks of said City. Section 2. The sidewalks herein provided for shall be on even grade throughout as new determined by the City Engineer and shall be built 6 feet wide of black concrete or asphalting of good quality of common pine plank two inches thick, spiked with twenty penny nails and shall be supported by three 2x6 inch stringers well lapped and spiked with 20 penny nails. The stringers shall be laid upon flat stones, placed at intervals of not more than four feet. Section 3. The committee on sidewalks shall as soon as practicable after the said 1St day of September 1886 cause sidewalks to be constructed between the limits defined in section one and in manner specified in section two of this ordinance in front of all lots and premises whose owners have failed to comply with the foregoing requirements and report their proceeding to the Mayor and Council, which report shall be filed and preserved by the City Clerk. Section 4. The expense of building such sidewalks by the said committee shall be assessed against the real estate abutting thereon, collected as other taxes on such real estate. Section 5. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after its publication in the Saline County Journal. Approved August 16, 1886
