An ordinance specifying the material. and :+ ett4ng the contracts for the
paving -and excavatingof certain streets in the city of Salina,
Kansas.
Whereas, under the provisions of Ordinances numbered 1406, 1407, 1408,
1409, 1410, and 1411,- passed, and approved March 30, 1908, the mayor and
council advertised for bids for the paving and excavating of the streets
and parts of streets in such ordinances named and defined, which advertise-
..ment for bids is hereby approved and ratified; and,
Whereas; bids for such work and improvements have been filed with
the city clerk and have been examined by the mayor and council., and the
bid and proposal of John Ritchie is hereby found and determined to be the
lowest and most satisfactory and responsible bid for the kind and char -
atter of pavement hereinafter selected and designated; and the cost of
such paving and ex^avating under such bid, for the kind and character
of paving so selected and designated, will not exceed the estimate of the
cost of'such work and improvements heretofore made by the city engineer
and now -on file with the city clerk; and,
Whereas, the said mayor and council hereby deterfaines that all of
the streets hereinafter described and which are to be paved under this
and said Ordinances numbered 140!., 1407, 1403, 1409, 1410 and 1411 shall
be paved with brick �oaving blocks on` a concrete foundation, and such
pavement is hereby selected for such streets, except as otherwise
specially stated herein; therefore,
Be it ordained by'the Mayor and Councilmen of the city of Salina:,-
Section

Section 1. That si.x.separate contracts be and are hereby let and
awarded to John Ritchie of Topeka, Kansas, for the paving and excavating
of the following streets ,in 'the city of Salina, Kansas, to -wit:
A conf�r' ct'under ordinance No. 1406 for Santa Fe avenue, between the
south side of Walnut street and the south side of Crawford avenue.
A contract under ordinance No. 1407 for Seventh street, between the
north side of Walnut street and the north side.of Elm street, excepting
the square formed by the crossing of Iron avenue with Seventh street..
A contract under ordinance No. 1408 for Fifth street, between the
north side of Walnut street and the north side of Elm street, excepting
the square formed by the crossing of Fifth street with Iron avenue.
A contract under ordinance No. 1409 for Ash street, between the west
side of Fourth street and the east side of Seventh street, excepting the
squares formed by.the crossing of Ash street with Santa Fe avenue and Fifth
street.
A contract under ordinance No. 1410 for Walnut street, between the
east side of Fifth street and the west side of Seventh street, excepting
the square formed by the crossing of Walnut street with Santa Fe avenue.
A contract under ordinance No. 1411 for Elm street, between the .vest
side of Fourth street and the east side of Seventh street, excepting the
squares forded by the crossing of Elm street with Fifth street and Santa
Fe avenue;
A11 to be paved with one course of Buffalo brick paving blocks, c0"—
laid on a fiv7e inch concrete foundation, with sand filler (except a strip
twelve feet wide down the center of Santa Fe avenue, the entire distance
paved, which shall be paved with macadam pavement) at and for the uniform
price of one and 77/100 ($1.77) dollars per square yard for the square
yards of such brick block paving and concrete foundation actually laid on
said streets; and for such macadam pavement on,said Santa Fe avenue at
and for the price of fifty-three (53) cents per square yard for the yards
of such.macadam pavement actually laid on said street; and for the exca-
vating necessary to properly constructor such paving said contractor shall
be paid at the rate of thirty-three (33) cents per cubic yard for the
cubic yards of dirt actually removed from said streets, such prices being
the prices given and specified in the bid of said John Ritchie now on
file with the tidy clerk.
Sec. 2 That such paving and excavating shall be done in accordance
with the plans and specifications of the city engineer, as provided by
the provisions of said Ordinances numbredd�1406, 1407, 1408, 1409, 1410 and
1411•
Sec. 3. Payment for such paving and excavting shall be made to the.
contractor in impro7-rement bonds of the city of Salina, or in cash, at the
option of tM$t mayor and council of said city.
Sec. 4. That such contractor shall be required to execute "to the
city of Salina a good and -sufficient bond, as required by the laws of the
state of Kansas, for the purpose -of securing the payment of all claims for
labor and material done and furnished for the work and improvement. herein
contemplated.
Sec: 5. The city attorney is hereby instructed to prepare a contract
with the said John Ritchie for the work and improvement herein a�a.rded to

ordinances therefor, and that the mayor, or acting mayor; and the city
clerk sh h execute said contract on behalf of the city of .Saliha.
Sec. 6. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force'froin and
after its publication once in the Salin evening Journal. o
