2208 Municipal Band196 ORDINANCE --N4. 2508 (Published in the Salina Daily Union august 1918) An ordinance letting a contract - for public concerets in the city of Salina, Kansas. JOHEREA,S, at an election duly called and held in the City of Salina, Kansas, under and by virtue of Chapter 109 of the Session Laws of the State of Kansas, for the year 1917, a majority of the electors of said City voting there- at, voted in favor of the levy of tw-tenths of one mill on each dollar of the assessed valuation of all property in said City, for use in the maintenance of the muncipal band to give free concerts for the benefit of the people of said. City, and ' WHEREAS, by virtue of the provisions ,of said Chapter, no money can' be appropriated out of the fund so created un- til the Conductor or Manager of said band' shall have first entered into a written contract with said City for public concerts at such times and places as may be determined upon in said contract, Noir, Therefore, Be it ordained by the Mayor and Councilmen of the City of Sal ina Section 1. That the Mayor and City Clerk be and they are hereby authorized and directed to -enter into a contract with Howell's Salina Municipal Band by the terms of which the said Howell's Salina Municipal Band shall agree to give fifty (50) free musical concerts of at least one and one- half hours (1z), during the year in which this contbact shall run, at such times and places in said City as the Mayor of the City may direct; such concerts to begin when directed by said Mayor. Said contract shall further provide that such concerts shall be given free and without charge to any person in attendance thereat. The said contract shall fur - Cher provide -that the said Band, will furnish music for occasions of-pubiic .importance when called upon by the Mayor of said City, upon` the giving of at least twenty-four (24) hours notice in advance of the time when such band is to furnish such services,. and that credit will -be given the band on the above designated number of concerts on the basis of one concent for each one and one -half -(Ie) hour's occu- pied -on such' occasions commencing from -the time that the engagemtnt is designated to begin; such contract so to be made by the said City and said band shall be dated the first day of July, 1918 and terminate on the thirtieth day of June, 1919. 1 l 1 1 1 1 1 Sec. 2. The said Howell's Salina Municipal Band shall be paid as full compensation for their services so to be rend- ered as aforesaid the sum of $4200,00 per year; $2100,00 of which amount shall be payable to The Board of Directors on or about the first day of January, 1919, and $2100,00 payable on or before the first day of July, 1919. See. 3. The average number of pieces in organization to be not less than twenty-five (25) . Sec. 4, This ordinance shall take effect and be in full force from and after .its' publication once in The official City paper, Passed and approved, August l9th, 1918, Edd ,Mathews , Mayor.
