1843 Haboring Dogs270' ORDINANCE NO. 1843. (Published in the Salina -Evening -Journal May 1915.) An ordinance relating to dogs and repealing Ordinance No. 1028, passed and.approved April 30, 1900, and Ordinance No. 1759, passed and approved May l8, 1914. Be it ordained by the Mayor and Councilmen of the City of Salina: ect ion 1. It shall be unlawful for any person or persons to keep or harbor in the city of Salina, Kansas, any dog, bitch or whelp over six weeks of age', without causing such dog, bitch or whelp to be registed as hereinafter provided.' Sec. 2. 'the owners keeper or harborer of any dog in the City of Salina, shall cause his name, with the name and desetiption of the dog to be registered with the City Clerk in a book to be kept for that pur- pose, and shall pay to the City Clerk each year, before such dog is registered a registration of Two Dollars ($2.00) for each male dog, and each spayed female dogs" and Ten Dollars (10.00) for each unspayed female dog, and shall keep on the neck of each dog, so registered, a me- tallic or leather collar, to which shall -be attached a metallic tag or check, (to be furnished by the City Clerk), with the name of tLkaxx=azx tithe year -of the registration distinctly marked thereon. The City Clerk shall keep a suitable book for the registration of dogs and upon payment to him of the "fee aforesaid", shall register the dogs upon. which said fee is paid. Sec. 3, No person or persons keeping or ha'rbo'ring, any dog in the City of 'Salina, shall permit the same to run gat large withinthe_ limits of said city, and all doge running at° large . in the City of -Salina Salina are hereby declared to be public nuisances, and shall be dealt with as in this 'ordinance provided. See. 4. It shall be the duty of the City Marshal and Policemen, and any person employed by the City for that purpose to capture all dogs running at large in the City of Salina, in violation of the pro- visions of this- ordinance, and place them in a pound provided for that purpose by the City, and if the owner of any such dog, so captured and impounded does not appear within twenty-four (24) hours after -such im- pounding, . and claim and pay. for the impounding of such dog. -together with any unpaid registration fee, the City Clerk shall cause -the im- pounding of such dog to beadvertiesed in the official city paper for a periof of three (3) days. If after the impounding of such dog has been advettised as above provided, the owner does not appear and claim such dog, adn pay for the impounding of the same, together with.any unpaid registration fee, then it shall be the duty of the City Marshal or Po- licemen, or any person employed by the City for that purpose tokill or cause to be killed and buried such dog or dogs. U t IPAy 1 1 1 P� Sec. 5. The advertising of the impounding of any dog as herein provided, shall contain a general description of said dog, and the date when impounded. Sec. 6. No dog shall be allowed to enter any theatre or public building in the City of Salina, whether accompanied by its owner or person in charge or otherwise. Sec. -7. No dog shall be allowed to enter any store or other place wherein edibles are kept or. offered. for sale. Sec. 8. No person shall keep, own or harbor any vicious dog In the City. of Salina. . Sec. 9. All registration of dogs -as provided for in this ord- inance.shall expire on the last day of April of each year, after the registration of such dog. Sec. 10. The provisions of this ordinance shall not apply to dogs not owned or harbored in Salina, unless they be found at large, without any owner. or master. Sec. 11. The charge for catching and impounding any dog as hereinbefore provided shall be the sum of $3.00 which sum, the owner of any dog impounded under the provisions of this ordinance mast pay to the City Marshal or City Clerk, in addition to any unpaid regis.- tration fee, due upon said dog, before such dog shall be released or turned over to him. The amount to be paid for the killing and bury - Ing of any dog under this ordinance shall.be fixed by the Mayor and Council. Sec. 12.. Any person or persons, owning, possessing, -keeping or harboring any dog or dogs in the city of Salina, shall cause such dog or dogs to be securely muzzled between the first day of July and the first day of September of each year. See. 13. The word f'dog" as used in the ordinance shall be con- strued to mean any dog, bitch or whelp over six weeks of age. Sec. 14. Any person violating any of the provisions of this ordinanee shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof, shall be fined in any sum not exceeding $25.00, for each of- fence. Sec. 15. Ordinance No. 1028, passed and approved April 30, 1900, and Ordinance No. 1759, passed and approved May 18, 1914s and all other ordinances or parts of ordinanods in conflict with this ordinance, are hereby repealed. 271 272 See. 16.
