An ordinance providing for the installation and maintenance of
street lights in the City of Salina, Kansas, and letting the
contr&uct therefor.
Be it ordained by the Mayor and Councilmen of .the City of Salina:
Section 1. That the City of Salina hereby contracts with
The Salina Light, Power and Gas Company for the installation, main-
temnee and operation of street lighting as follows:
The Salina Light, Power and Gas Company shall operate and
maintain in said City, the present white way or street lighting
system, as the same is now installed upon certain streets in the
City of Salina, Kansas, all as provided for in Lection One of Ord-
iance No. 1706 of the City of Salina, Kansas, passed and approved
March 24, 1913; and the.said The Salina Light, Power and Gas Company
shall -be paid therefor by the said City of Salina, the sum of
Thirty -Nine ($39.00) Dollars per year for each white way post so
installed, maintained and operated by the said The Salina Light,
Power and Gas Company.
See. 2. The city of Salina shall have the right to order
in additional white way posts at any time and The Salina Light,
Pwer & Gas Company shall construct, install, maintain and operate
such white way posts and lights thereon as may be ordered in by the
City, and shall be paid for such posts, bearing four 60 -Watt Mazda
lamps burning until midnight and one 100 Watt Mazda lamp burning
all night, a price of Thirty -Nine (39.00). Dollars, per annum, by
said City; Provided, that the installation cost thereof shall
not exceed the average of One Hundred (100.00) Dollars, per post
so installed any one time under the order of said City.
Sec. 3. That for three light white way posts the said The
Salina Light, Power and Gas Company shall install, operate and
maintain two 60 -Watt Mazda lamps burning until midnight and one
100 -Watt Mazda lamp burning all night, at a charge of Thirty-two
($32.00) per year; Provided, However, that the installation cost
for such posts shall not exceed the average of ninety ($90.00)
Dollars per post so installed at any one time.
Sec. 4. That for a single light white way post, The Salina
Light, Power & Gas Company shall install, operate and maintain an
ornamental post bearing one 200 -Watt: Maxda lamp burning all night,
at a ' cost of Thirty -Three ($33-.00) Dollars each year; Provided, taht
the installation cost thereof shall not exceed the sum of Seventy-
five (75.00) Dollars, per post for the posts installed at any one
time.

Sec. 5. That for all are lights now installed, operated and
maintained by The Salina Light, Power & Gas Company, said Gity of
Salina shall pay to the said Light Company, the sum of Sixty Dol-
lars (60.00) each year, for the lights so maintained and operated
by said Company, up to and including One Hundred Fifty (150) lights;
and for each additional are light in excess of • 0 ne Hundred Fifty
(150) shall pay Fifty -One ($51.00) dollars each per year; such
lights to be operated and maintained by said Company and burned all
might, Provuded, However, that one thousand (1000) feet shall be the
maximum distance which the - said The Salina Light, Power & Cas Company
shall be required to run its wires for any single light. System
of distribution to be overhead.
Sec. 6. That for all sixty candle power incandescent lights
ordered in by said City and operated and maintained by said Company,
the said City shall pay to the said The Salina Light, Power & Cas
Company, the sum of Eighteen ($18.00) Dollars per year for each light
so maintained and operated; Provided, that five hundred ( 500) feet
shall be the maximum distance that the Light Company shall be required
to run its wires for any such single light. System of distribution
to be overhead.
Sec. 7. That for all lights ordered in by said City of what
soever kind as above enumerated, and within the distance and amounts
specified, The Salina Light, Power & Gas Company shall properly in-
stall, operate and maintain such lights, furnishing therefor all
labor, posts, lamps, globes, wires, cables and other material and
all such equipment and material shall be and remain the property of
such Company.
Sec. 8. That all such payments to, be. made by said City in ac -
cordance with the terms of this ordinance shall be made in equal
monthly payments, proportioned as nearly as possible upon the amount
to be paid annually by said City to the said Company.
See. 9. That The Salim Light, Power & Gas Company shall each
year for the succeeding three (3) years after the passage of this
ordinance replace at least one-third of the are lights operated and
maintained in said City with four hundred candle power type "C" series
Street Arcs until at the expiration of said three years, when the said
The Salina Light, Power & Gas Company shall use such mentioned lights
exclusively in place of the are lights now used by said Company;
all defective and worn out lights to be replaced with such last men -
tinned lights.

See. 10. That the City of Salina , whenever it orders in any
white way posts as hereinbefore provided, shall specify whether the
same are to bear four, three or one lights, and such -Company, shall
install and operate and maintain such lights and posts as the City
may order.
Sec. 11. That the price fixed in this ordinance to be paid
to the Company shall continue for a period of not to exceed five
years from the date of the publication of this ordinance, the City
of Salina reserving the right to make reasonable changes as to rates
and charges from time to time.
Sec. 12. The said The Salina Light, Power & Gas Company within
thirty days from the passage and publication of this ordinance, file
with the City Clerk of said City of Salina,, it$ acceptance in writ-
ing of the terms and conditions of this ordinance before said City
shall be bound by its terms, and after such acceptance so filed by
said Company, then thip ordinance shall operate and be a contract
between said City and said Company.
Sec. 13. That the provisions of Ordinance No. 1706, so far as
they relate to the amounts to be paid by the City to the said The
Salina Light, Power & Gas Company, be and the same are hereby re-
pealed.
Sec, 14. This ordinance shall take effect and be in full
force from and after its publication once in the official City
paper, and its acceptance by The Salina Light, Power _& Gas Company.
