An ordinance specifying and selecting the paving material to be
used and letting the contract for the'paving and excavating of
certain streets in the city of Nalina, iiansas, hereinafter spe-
cifically described.
Be it ordained by the Mayor and Councilmen of the City of Galina:
Section 1. The Payor and Council hereby determine that College
Avenue, from the north :line of Park Street to the south line of
Bishop Sheet; Bishop Street .from- the west line of Thirteenth Street
to the east line of College Avenue; Bond Street, from the west line
of Santa Fe Avenue to the east line of Highland Avenue; Prescott
Avenue, from the west line of Ninth Street to the east line of
Eleventh Street; Twelfth Street., from the north line of Ash Street
to the south line of Bishop Street shall be paved with one -course
repressed vitrified vertical fiber side wire cut Buffalo Brick
Paving Block not less than three inches in depth, with asphalt filler
as specif ied in the spec if icat ions of the City Engineer now on f Ile
with the City Clerk, for such paving, such paving material to be
laid on a five inch concrete base, as specified in the specifications
hereinafter made a part hereof, which pavement so constructed is
hereby selected and adopted as and for the pavement to be laid and
constructed on said streets. Such pavements shall be the following
widths, to -wit:
On College Avenue. within the limits hereinbefore defined, said
pavement shall be thirty-one (31) feet wide.
On Bishop Street,within the limits hereinbefore defined, said
pavement shall be thirty (30) feet wide.
On Bond Street, within the limits hereinbefore defined, said
pavement shall be thirty-four (34) feet wide.,
On Prescott Avenue, within the limits hereinbefore defined, said
pavement
shall be
twenty-four

feet wide.
On
Twelfth gteet,
within
the
limits hereinbefore defined, said
pavement shall be thirty-one (31) feet wide.
On all of said above named streets, said paving shall return
to the lot line on such streets at the intersection of such streets
with other streets and alleys.
Sec . .2 . All excavating, filling and rolling necessary for the
proper construction of such improvement shall be done and all of
said improvements shall be made and done in conformity to and compliance
with the plans and specifications made therefore by the City Engineer
and are now on file with the City Clerk, and such plans and specifi-
cations are hereby incorporated in and made a part of this ordinance
in all respects as if the same were written out in full herein, and
they are hereby adopted as and for the plans and specifications for
such work and improvement.
Sec. 3. A contract is hereby awarded to A. R. young do Company
of Lawrence, Kansas, for the paving, excavating and filling of
said above mentioned streets within the 1 im it s aforesaid with the
material specified in Section (1) hereof, on a five inch concrete
base at and for the uniform price of One and 90/100 Dollars, ($1.90)
per square yard for such pavement actually laid and put in place on
said streets, all of such pavement to have an asphalt filler. Such
pavement shall be paid for according to the measurement thereof by
the City Engineer of said City, and the Mayor and Council hereby
determine and find that the price hereby agreed to be paid for the
improvements aforesaid, are less than the estimated prices and costs
of each and all of said improvements as made and furnished by said
City Engineer, which estimated cost of each and all of such improve-
ments is now on file with the City Clerk.
Sec. .4. A contract is hereby let to said A. R. young & Company
for the excavating, filling and rolling of said streets, as herein
provided, at and for the uniform price of forty-two (42¢) cents
per cubic yard for the cubic yards of dirt actually excavated and
removed from said streets.
Sec. 5. Such contract is awarded upon the express condition
that such work and improvement shall be done in strict accordance
with the specifications of the City Engineer therefor, which are
hereby made a part of this ordinance, and of the contract hereby
awarded, and upon the further condition among others that the said
A. R. Young & Company shall give to the City of Salina a surety
bond in the approximate sum of the cost of such improvements guar -
ant eeing the proper and workmanlike construct ion of all such improve0
ments and guaranteeing such pavement against all defects for a period
of five (5) years from the date of its completion and its acceptance
by said City.'
Sec. 6. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from
and after its publication once in The Salina Daily Union.
