1976 Dogs Running at Large2bPGH 1 1 ORDINANCE_ NO. 1976 (Published in the Salina Daily Union. /2,/ An ordinance relating to dogs, and repealing Ordinance No. 1028, passed and approved April 30th, 1900; Ordinance No. 1759, passed and approved May 18th, 1914; and Ordinance No. 1843, passed and approved May 17th, 1915. Be it ordained by the Mayor and Councilmen of the c it y' of Salina: Sec l . All dogs running at large in the City of Salina, are hereby.ideclar o be public. nuisances, and shall be dealt with as in this ordinance provu Provided, that dogs led by chain, strap or rope by its owner or perso charge, or riding in any vehicle with such owner or person in charge, 11 not be affected by the provisions of this ordinance. Sec . 2. The owner, keeper or harborer of any dog in the: City of Salina, shall cause his name, th the name and description of the dog to be registered with the ity Clerk in a book to be kept for that purpose, and shall y to the City Clerk each year, before. such dog is registered a . egistration .fee of two dollars, ($2.00) for each male dog and ach }spayed •female dog, and ten dollars, ($10.00) for each- spayed female dog, and st'iall keep on the neck of each dog so regi s ered, a metallic or leather collar, to which shall be attache a metallic tag or check, (to be furnished by the City Clerk), th the name of the year of the registration distinctly marked ereon. The City Clerk shall keep a suitable book for the re 'stration of. dogs and upon payment to him of the fee aforesaid, shall register the dogs upon which said fee is paid.. Sec. 3. It shall be the duty of the City Marshal and Police - men, or any person employed y the Mayor for that purpose, to cap- ture all dogs running at 1 ge in the City of Salina in violation r of this ordinance and pla e them in a pound to be prepared by the City for that purpose; nd if the owner of any such dog so captured and impounded does no appear within 48 hours after such impounding and claim and pay f r the impounding of such dog, together with any unpaid registratio fee, the City Marshal shall cause the impounding ,of such dog to b advert ised in the official city paper for a period of three (3) d ys . The advertising of the impounding of any dog as herein provi d, shall contain a general description of said dog, a/been when impounded. If after the -impounding of such dog hertised as above provided, the owner does not appear and cdog, and pay for the impounding of the same, together wpaid registration fee, then it shall be the duty of the Cl or Policemen, or any person appointed by the Mayor for te to kill or cause to be killed and buried -=such dog or dided, that the charge for catching and impounding any dog shall be the sum of Th e Do lars which sum any owner of any im- pounded dog must pay tot e City Marshal before such dog shall be released or turned' oveVto him; and provided further, that the amount to be paid for /the kAling and burying of any dog under this ordin- ance shall bd fixed by the Mayor and Council. See. 4. Any peson persons owning, possessing, keeping or harboring any dog o ggs in-tyre„city of Salina, shall cause such dog or dogs to be securely muzzl d.-be�4 the first day of July and the first day of September of each 611, Sec. 5. No dog shall be allowed to enter any theater, store or other public place or building in the City whether accompanied by its owner or person in charge or otherwise. The word "Dog” as used in this ordinance shall be construed to mean any dog, bitch, or whelp over six weeks of age. Sec. 6. Whenever any person in the City of. Salina shall have a dog or harbor the same, which is or has 4 tendency to be vicious or to bite or snap at people ilt phWfls be the duty of such person to keep posted in a conspicuous paee�"©hie premises where such dog is kept or harbored, a notice, in lameettes warning people of the dangerous character of such dog or doffs Sec. 7. Any person violating any of the, visions of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be fined in any sum not exceeding twenty-five dollars for each offense. See. B. Ordinance No. 1028, passed and approved April 30, 1900; Ordinance No. 1759, passed and.approved May 18, 1914; and Ordinance No. 1843, passed and approved May 17, 1915, are each and all hereby repealed. Sec. 9. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after its publication once in The Salina Daily Union.
