A RESOLUTION acquiring easement of storage area for flood water, providing
for the control thereof and authorizing bridge over river.
WHEREAS, the City of Salina, Kansas, is authorized by law to acquire property
for the purpose of -construction,, operation and maintenance of a flood control
system.
WHEREAS, the City ofSalina, Kansas , has heretofore'by resolution duly passed,
declared that it is necessary for the public good and convenience t,at the City
of Salina,Kansas, be protected from the overflow of certain watercourses, name
ly the Smoky Hill River and DryCreek.
WHEREAS, in connectihn with the planning fors aid flood control system for
Salina, K ansas, by the U. S. Corps of Engineers, the City of Salina, ansas,
has determined that the most economical combination for providing for the
ponding of interior drainage during period of flood flows in the main channel
of Smoky Hill River is to utilize the stbrage capacity of the "Putnam Sand
Pit" which is located in the South One-half (S2) of Section Seven (7) Town-
ship Fourteen (14) South, Range Two (2) west of the Sixth Principal Meridian,
Saline County, Kansas.
WHEREAS, Putnam Sand and Building Company, Inc., is the fee title owner of
a tract of land,lying in the South One -Half (S2), Section Seven (7) Township
Fourteen (14) South,Range Two (2) West of the Sixth Principal Meridian,
Saline County, Kansas., comprising all of Tract 1 and a part of Tract 2 of the
amended plat to the farm subdivision, to the Thomas White farm.
WHEREAS, the City Commissionrs of the City of Salina, Kansas, and the Putnam
Sand and Building Company, Inc., have reached a full agreement concerning the
heretofore mentioned acquiring of an easemeit of storage area for flood w ater,
providing for the control thereof etc.
SO NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY
OF SALINA, KANSAS:
That the Mayor of the City of Salina, Kansas, be and he is hereby author-
ized and directed to enter into a contract with the Outnam Sand and Buileing
Company, Inc., acquiring an easement of storage area for flood water, provid-
ing for the control thereof and all things incidental thereto, and to sign
all documents to affect the aforesaid purposes by the Board of Commissioners.
This resolution approved and adopted this 17th day of March 1959.
