RESOLUTION NUMBER 2415
A -RESOLUTION pertaining TO THE CONTINUING FLOOD PROTECTION FOR THE CITY OF SALINA,
KANSAS, WITH PARTICIPATION BY THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA:
WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States of America has duly adopted Public
Law 566, the same being expressive of proposed public works; and
WHEREAS, said document includes and approves flood protection works for the
Wilson Recervoir; and,
WHEREAS, the Corps of Engineers has instituted a program for a study of river
and stream bank stabilization as part of its system of flood control, which
program is particularly favored by the Board of Commissioners of the City of
Salina, Kansas; and
WHEREAS, the. initial phase of said flood protection work is now started; and
WHEREAS, the great majority of the people of Salina, Kansas, continue to
favor and enthusiastically endorse the continuation and completion of the plan
of the Corps of Engineers of the United States of America for Flood protection
of Salina, Kansas,; also the entire project and plan for the Missouri and
Arkansas River Basins, and the Wilson Reservoir Project; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of.the City of Salina, Kansas, deem it
in the public interest that said flood protection works be constructed and
said flood protection plan be carried out in all details; -and
SO, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS of the City
of Salina, Kansas:
That it earnestly solicits the Congress of the United States of America to
further appropriate sufficient funds and monies and make the same available to
the Corps of Engineers of the United States of America in order that such
agency may continue with the construction of such works and do all things
necessary and incidental thereto to the completion of said projects.
That the City Clerk of the City of Salina, Kansas, be and he is hereby
directed to forward a copy of this Resolution to the"Honorable Andrew F.
Schoeppel, the Honorable Frank Carlson, the Honorable Wint Smith, the Director
of the Budget, Honorable Clarence Cannon, Chairman fo the Appropriations
lCommittee of the -House of Representatives of the United States, Honorable Carl
Hayden, Chairman of Appropriations Committee of the Senate of the United States
and Major General Samuel D. Sturgis of the Corps of Engineers aforesaid.
