RESOLUTION PERTAINING TO THE CONTINUING FLOOD PROTECTION FOR THE CITY OF SALINA,
NSAS, WITH PARTICIPATION BY THE UNITED STATES OF AMBRCIA:
WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States of America has duly adopted
lic Law 556, the same being expressive of proposed public works; and
WHEREAS, said document includes and approves flood protection works for the
Wilson Reservior; and
WHEREAS, the Corps of Engineers has instituted a program for a study of
river and stream bank stabilization as part of its system of flood control,
,which grogram is particularly favored by the Board of Commissioners of the City
of Salina, Kansas; and
WHEREAS, the initial phase of said flood protection works is now started;
and
WHEREAS, before such approved works can be implemented, it will be necessary
or the Congress of the United States of America to provide for such implementati
y further appropriations of money; and
WHEREAS, the great majority of the people of Salina, Kansas, continue to
avor and enthusiastically endorse the continuation and completion of the plan
f the Corps of Engineers of the United States of America for flood protection
f Salina, Kansas; also the entire project and plan for the Missouri and Arkansas
iver Basins, and the Wilson Reservior Project; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of the City of Salina, Kansas, deem it
n the public interest that said flood protection works be constructed and said
lood protection plan be carried out in all details; and
SO, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BORAD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE City
f Salina,. Kansas;
That is earnestly solicits the Congress of the United States of America to
further appropriate sufficient funds and monies and make the same available to
he Corps of Engineers of the United States of America in order that such; agency
ay continue with the construction of such works and do all things necessary and
'ncidental thereto to the completion of said projects.
That the City Clerk of the City of Salina, Kansas, be and he is hereby
ected to forward a copy of this Resolution to the Honorable Andrew F. Schoeppel,
Honorable Frank Carlson, the Honorable Wint Smith, the Director of .the Budget,
,orable Clarence Cannon, Chairman of the Appropriations Committee of the House
Representatives of the United States, Honorable Carl Hayden, Chairman of
,ropriations Committee of the Senate of the United States, and Major General
uel D. Sturgis of the Corps of Engineers, aforesaid.
