A RESOLUTION PERTAINING TO THE FLOOD PROTECTIONFOR THE CITY OF SALINA,
WHEREAS, the -Congress of the United States of America has duly adopted
Public Law 566,'the same being expressive.of, proposed public works; and,.
WHEREAS, the program of the Corps of Engineers of the United States of
America for the flood protection of Salina, Kansas, has been completed; and,
WHEREAS, the Corps of Engineers has instituted a program for a study of
rivers and stream bank stabilization as part of its -system of flood control,
which program is particularly favored by the Board of Commissioners"of the City
of Salina, Kansas; and,
WHEREAS, the --initial phase of said flood protection work is now started;
and
WHEREAS, before such approved works can be implemented, it will be necessary
for the Congress of the United States of America to provide for such implemen-
tation by further appropriations of money; and,
WHEREAS, the great majority of the people of Salina, Kansas, continue to fav
and enthusiastically endorse the continuation of the plan of the Corps of Enginee
of the United States of America for flood protection of Salina, Kansas; also
the entire project and plan for -the Missouri and Arkansas River Basins, and the
Wilson Reservoir Project; and,
WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of the City of Salina, Kansas, deem it
in the public interest that said flood protection works be constructed and said
flood protection plan be carried out in all details; and
80''J=W, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of the City
of Salina, Kansas;
The Board of Commissioners of the City of Salina, Kansas, on behalf of its
constituency wish to express its gratitude and appreciation to the Corps of
Engineers of the United States df America for its efficient planning and
masterly construction of the flood protection project for Salina, Kansas, to the
Congress of the United States and all those who so dilligently and unceasingly
labored on its behalf.
That it earnestly solicits the Congress of the United States of America
to further appropriate sufficient funds and moneys and make the same available
to the Corps of Engineers of the United States of America in order that such
agency may continue with the construction of such works and do all things
necessary and incidental thereto to the completion of said projects.
That the City Clerk of the City of Salina, Kansas, be and he is hereby
directed to forward a copy of this Res6lution to the Honorable Andrew F. Schoeppe
the Honorable Frank Carlson, -the Hnnorable Robert Dole, the Director of the
Budget, Chairman of the Appropriations Committee of the House of Representatives
of the United States, Chairman of Appropriations Committee of the Senate of the
United States, and the Major General of the Corps of Engineers aforesaid.
Adopted and approved by the Board of Commissioners of the City of Salina,
Kansas, in regular session the 1st day of May, 1962.
