2432 Construct LeveeRESOLUTION NUMBER 2432
WHEREAS, the City of Salina, Kansas is authorized by G. S. 1949, 12-635 to
12-646a, inclusive, andamendments thereto, to construct levees and embankments
and change and raise the grade of streets and alleys and approaches to bridges
and raise said birdges and to cause any and all -other necessary work, construction
and improvements to..be made -to protect said City and public and private property
therein located from floods and damage by overflow of natural and artificial
watercourses; and
WHEREAS, the governing body of the City of Salina, Kansas has by proper
resolutions and ordinances duly authorized and development, construction,
maintenance and operation of a flood control system project; -and
WHEREAS, the governing body of the City of Salina, Kansas has -authorized
the issuance of -temporary notes of the City of Salina, Kansas to pay the costs of
said flood control project; and
WHEREAS, the City of Salina, Kansas has entered into certain agreements with
the United States government through the United States Army Corps of Engineers g7
whereby said Corps of Engineers has and is constructing certain channel changes,
levees and other flood control works; and
WHEREAS, the City Engineer has advised that in connection with said"
construction work it will be necessary, and in the interests of public welfare to
require, provide for and construct a bridge or corssing over and across the Smoky
Hill River on Mulberry Street, Salina, Kansas;
WHEREAS, the construction of said Mulberry Street Smoky Hill River bridge
or corssing is a necessary and proper undertaking by the City and it would be
for the best interests of the City to advertise for sealed proposals for the
construction of a bridge or corssing over and across the Smoky Hill River on
Mulberry Street, Salina, Kansas as per the estimate and specifications of the
City Engineer.
NOW, THEREFORE,.BE IT -RESOLVED by the Board .of Commissioners of the City of
Salina, Kansas:
Section 1. That the construction of a bridge or crossing as per the City
Engineer's estimate and specifications over and across the Smoky HillRiveron
Mulberry Street, Salina,.Kansas, be and the same is hereby authorized as, a
necessary and proper work in connection with the City of Salina's flood control
project.
Section 2. That.the City Clerk be authorized and directed to invite by
public notice sealed proposals for the building,construction and installation
of a bridge or crossing over and across the Smoky Hill River on Mulberry Street,
Salina, Kansas, all as provided by law and upon acceptance of properly qualified
proposal, the Mayor and City Clerk be authorized and directed to enter into a
contract on behalf of the City for the construction work authorized by this
resolution.
This resolution approved and adopted this 1st day of November 1960.
