CHARTER ORDINANCE 26
A CHARTER ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 3 OF CHARTER
ORDINANCE 22'i CONCERNING THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE CONVENTION AND
TOURISM COMMITTEE; AND REPEALING THE EXISTING SECTION.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Governing Body of the City of Salina,
Kansas:
Sectio~ 1. That Section 3 of Charter Ordinance 22 is hereby amended
to read as folloV~s:
"Secti~.n 3. The following substitute provisions are hereby
adopteld in place of K.S.A. 12-16,101:
Conve~tion and tourism committee; appointment; terms;
contra.~ts and programs.
(a) ~he Board of City Commissioners hereby establishes a
commit~tee to be known as the "Convention and Tourism
Commit~tee" to make recommendations concerning the programs
and expenditures for the promotion of conventions and
tourisrp. Except as otherwise provided in this paragraph,
the Cc~mmittee shall consist of ten (10) members who shall be
individuals knowledgeable and active in the promotion of
tourisrh and conventions. The initial membership of the
commit~tee shall consist of the existing Convention and
Touris~n Committee members, who shall each serve the
balanc~ of their respective present terms and until a
successor is appointed. The president of the Salina Area
Chamber of Commerce shall be an ex-officio member of this
commitLee. The remaining nine (9) members of the committee
shall ~e appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the
Board of City Commissioners to no more than two (2)
consec~utive terms of four (4) years each and until a
successor is appointed.
(b) The Board of Commissioners shall have the authority to
contract for convention and tourism programs to be
implem~ented."
Sectio~ 2. That the existing Section 3 of Charter Ordinance 22 and
any other ordir~ances or resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
Section 3. This ordinance shall be published once a week for two (2)
consecutive weens in The Salina Journal, the official city newspaper.
Sectior~ 4. This is a Charter Ordinance and shall take effect sixty-one
(61) days after final publication unless a sufficient petition is filed and a
referendum hel~! on the ordinance as provided in Article 12 Section 5
Subdivision {c) iof the Constitution of Kansas· in which case the ordinance shall
become effective if approved by a majority of the electors voting thereon.

(2/3) of the members elect voting in favor thereof and approved by the Mayor
this 20th day of May, 1991.
