Kansas (FirSt Published in The Salina Journal August~/~¢, ~/~/~/~'~'-1988) CHARTER ORDINANCE NUMBER 24 A cHARTER ORDINANCE EXEMPTING THE CITY OF SALINA, KANSAS, FROM THE PROVISIONS OF K.S.A. 12-1008 AND PROVIDING SUBSTITUTE AND ADDITIONAL PROVISIONS ON THE SAME WHICH RELATE TO SALARIES OF MI~MBERS OF GOVERNING BODIES. BE IT ORDAINED by the Governing Body of the City of Salina, Kansas: Section. 1. Election to exempt. That t~he City of Salina, Kansas, by the power vested in it by Article 12, Section 5 Of the Constitution of the State of Kansas, hereby electes to exempt itself from and make inapplicable to it the provisions of K.S.A. 12-1008 and provide subistitute and additional provisions as hereinafter set forth in this ordinance. Such referenced provisions are either enactments or a part thereof which are applidable to this city that are not applicable uniformly to all cities. Sectior~ 2. Substitute and additional provisions. That the City of Salina, does hereby provide substitute and additional provisions on the same subject as follows, to wit: "12-1008. Salaries of members of ~lovernin~ bodies of certain first class cities fixed by ordinance; bond. The governing body of any city having a population of more than one hundred fifty thousand (150,01)0) and operating under the provisions of this act, shall, by ordinance fix the salary of members of the goverr~ing body, including the mayor, but any salary so fixed Shall not exceed the sum of three thousand dollars ($3,00{I) per annum for commissioners, nor more than four thousahd dollars ($4,000 per annum for the mayor of such city. Salaries so fixed shall be payable in monthly installments, in cities of the first class with a population of not more than ninety thousand (90,000), each commissioner shall deceive such compensation as the governing body shall fix by ordinance but not exceed one thousand two hundred dollars ($1,200) a year, payable in monthly instalments and in citi.es of the first class shall give the necessary bond require, d by cities of this class under the commission government." Section~ 3. Publication of ordinance. This Charter Ordinance shall be published once a week for two (2) consecutive weeks in The Salina Journal the official city newspaper. Sectioni 4. Effective date. This is a Charter Ordinance and shall take effect sixty-one (61) days after final publiCation, unless a sufficient petition for referendum is filed and the referendum !held on the ordinance as provided in Article 12, Section 5, Subdivision (c)(3) of the Constitution of the State of Kansas, in which case the Kuhn-Cox Prin(ing -- Sa~na. Kansas ordinance shall become effective if approved by a majority of the electors voting thereon.
