An ordinance providing for the construction of certain sewers in the
City of Salina, Kansas, and letting the °contract therefor, and
providing for the payment of the cost thereof.
Be it ordained by the Mayor and C oUnc ilmen of the City of Salina;
Section 1. That it is necessary and hereby ordered that
the following sewers be built and constructed in the City of Salina,
Kansas:
About 620 feet of ten inch sewer on Ash Street, between Oak-
dale Avenue and Front Street, such sewer to have five manholes as
,provided in the plans and specifications hereinafter made a part
hereof.
About 280 feet of ten inch sewer on Ash Street between Oakdale
Avenue and Front Street, . on the south side of the main sewer, includ-
ing two manholes..
About 1448 feet of twelve
inch sewer on Fifth Street,
between
Bond Street and Republic Avenue,
including four manholes.
About 562 feet of ten inch
sewer on Eleventh Street, from
Prescott Avenue to Charles Street, including three manholes.
About 400 feet of ten inch
sewer on Washington Street,
from
Eleventh Street to 'Twelfth Street, including one manhole.
About 150 feet of ten inch
sewer on State Street west
of Col-
lege Avenue, including one manhole and two catchbasins.
About 500 feet of ten inch
sewer in the alley between
Ellsworth
Avenue and Jewell Avenue running
east from Santa Fe Avenue,
includ-
ing two manholes.
About 370 feet of ten inch sewer on Penn Avenue running south
from Iron Avenue, including one manhole.
About 775 feet of ten inch sewer in the alley between Front
Street. and Second Street, running north from Elm Street, including
two manholes:.
About 360 feet of twelve inch sewer, 620 feet of fifteen inch
Sewer, and sixty feet of eighteen inch sewer on Mulberry Street be-
tween
e-tween Fifth Street and the Smoky Hill River, including six manholes
and twelve catch basins.
About 1326 feet of ten inch sewer on Bishop Street between Ninth
Street and Thirteenth Street, including four manholes.

See. 2 . That the plans and specifications for such work
and improvement, made and prepared by the City Engineer of said City
and filed with the City Clerk on the 17th day of January, 1916,
are hereby adopted and approved as and for the plans and specifica-
tions for the work embraced therein and, in this ordinance, and are
hereby made a part of this ordinance, and all of the work and im-
provements described in this ordinance shall -be done in accordance
with such plans and specifications.
Sec. 3. That a contract be and is hereby let to C. T • Snyder
and L. C. Ahart for the building and construction of the sewers,
catch basins and manholes in this ordinance, and said plans and
specifications, described, at the following prices, to -wit:
For furnishing all labor and material for the building and
construction of the 620 feet of ten inch sewer on Ash Street between
Oakdale Avenue and Front Street, Forty-eight cents (48¢) per lin-
eal foot, and for the manholes therefor, Twenty -Six Dollars, (26.00)
each.
For furnishing all labor and material for the building and con-
struction of the 280 feet of ten inch sewer on Ash Street between
Oakdale Avenue and Front Street, Sixty cents {60¢) per lineal foot,
and for the manholes. therefor.Twenty-Eight Dollars, (28.00) each.
For furnishing all the labor and material for the building
and construction of the twelve inch sewer on Fifth Street, -between
Bond Street and Republic Avenue Sixty -Cents (60¢) per lineal foot,
and for the manholes therefor Twenty -Six Dollars, (26.00) each.
For furnishing all the labor and material for the building and
construction of the 562 feet of ten inch sewer on Eleventh Street
between Prescott Avenue and Charles Street, Sixty Cents (60¢) per
lineal foot, and for the manholes therefor Twenty -Eight Dollars,
(28.00) each.
For furnishing all the labor and material for -the bu,ILding
and construction of the 400 feet of ten inch sewer on Washington
Street between Eleventh Street and Twelfth Street, Fifty,,,.. --")ix cents
(56¢) per lineal foot, and for the manhole therefor Twenty -Seven
($27.00).
For furnishing all the labor and material for the building
and construction of the 150 feet of ten inch sewer on State Street
west cf College Avenue, Forty cents (40¢) per lineal foot, and for the
catchbasins therefor Twenty -Five Dollars, (#25.00) each, and for
manhole Twenty -Three (23.00") Dollars.
For furnishing the labor and material• for the building and
construction of the 500 feet of ten inch sewer in the alley between
Ellsworth Avenue and Jewell Avenue, east of Santa Fe Avenue, Forty-
five (45¢) cents per,lineal foot, and for the manholes therefor
Twenty -Four (24.00) each.
For furnishing the labor and material for the building and
construction of the 370 feet of ten inch sewer on Penn Avenue, south
of Iron Avenue, Fifty cents (50¢) per lineal foot, and for the man-
hole therefor Twenty -Six Dollars, ($26.00)
For furnishing the labor and material for, the building and
construction of the 775 feet of ten inch sewer in the alley between
Front Street and Second Street, north of Elm Street, Fifty -Eight
Cents (58¢) per, lineal foot, and for the manholes therefor, Twenty -
Eight ($28.00) each.
For furnishing the labor and material for the building and
construct ibn of the 360 feet of twelve inch sewer on Mulberry
Street, between Fifth Street and the Smoky Hill River, Fifty -Eight
Cents (584 per lineal foot.
For furnishing the laborland material for the building and
construction of the 620 feet of fifteen inch sewer on Mulberry
Street, between Fifth Street and the Smoky Hill River, Seventy
Cents (70¢) per lineal foot.
For furnishing the labor and material for the building and
construction of the 60 feet of eighteen inch sewer on Mulberry
Street, between Fifth Street and the Smoky Hill River Eight -Six
Cents (86¢) per -.lineal foot.
For furnishing the labor and material for the building and,
construction of six manholes on the above described sewers between
Fifth Street and the Smoky Hill River, on Mulberry Street, Twenty -
Five Dollars, ($25.00) each, and for the building and construction
of twelve catch basins on such sewers Twenty -Five Dollars , ($25.00)
each.
For furnishing the labor and material for the building and
construction of the 1326 feet of ten inch sewer on Bishop Street,
between Ninth Street and Thirteenth Street, Fifty -Six Cents (56¢ )
pere lineal foot, and for the manholes therefor Twenty -Eight Dol-
lars, ($28.00) each. And for twelve feet of twelve inch cast iron
pipe at One and 75/100 Dollars, ($1.75) per foot, and it is hereby
found and determined that the prices hereby fixed and agreed to be
paid for such work and improvements aforesaid are less than the
estimated cost of the same heretofore made by the City Engineer of

said City snd now on file with the City Clerk.
Sec. 4. The cost and expense of constructing and building
such sewers, manholes and cat bhbas ins shall be assessed against
all lots and pieces of ground contained in the city of Salina, Kan-
sas as a sewer district, as provided by Ordinance No. 618 of the
City of Salina, passed and approved, December 23rd, 1887, and the
Mayor and Council are hereby authorized to provide for the payment
of the cost thereof by installments instead of levying the entire
tax or special assessment at one time, and for such installments
they may issue improvement bonds of the City of galina, payable in
installments of equal amounts each year,. none of which bonds nor
the installments thereof, shall run longer than ten years or bear
interest exceeding five per cent per annum, and such bonds may be
delivered to the contractor building such sewer in payment thereof,
or the mayor and Council may sell such bonds at not less than their
par value and pay such contractor out of the proceeds thereof; and
such bonds shall be of such denomination as the mayor and council
may deem proper; and for the purpose of paying principal and inter-
est on said bonds as they severally become due, the mayor and coun-
cil shall each year, during the life of such bonds, levy an assess-
ment against all the taxable real property in said City at the ass-
essed value thereof for general revenue purposes exclusive of im-
provements in an amount sufficient to pay the principal and interest
of such bonds for that year; and the City Clerk shall certify such
assessments as they are severally made to the County Clerk of
Saline County, Kansas, at the same time and in the same manner that
other taxes of said City are certified.
Sec. 5. The person to whom said contract is awarded as afore-
said shall enter into a written contract with said City covering
the building and construction of such sewers and in such terms as
the said City may determine, and shall execute and furnish to the
City of Salina, a good and sufficient bond, as required by the
aforesaid specifications and for the purposes specified in said
specifications, and a good and sufficient bond to the State of Kan-
sas as required by the statutes of such State.
Sec. 6. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from
and after its publication once in the Salina Evening: Journal.

the city of Salina, Kansas and letting the contract therefore,
and providing for the payment of the cost thereof.
Be it ordained by the Mayor and Councilmen of the city of Sa1.il.a;

covering the building and construction of such sewers and in such
terms as the said city may determine, and shall execute and furnish
to the city of Salina a good and sufficient bond., as required by
the aforesaid specifications and for the purposes specified in said
apacifications, and a good and sufficient bond to the state of
Kans4s as required by the statutes of such state.
Section 6. This'.ordinance shall take effect and be in
force from and after its publication once in the Salina Evening
Jou-rna 1.
