1859 Appoint City AttorneyIr ly 1 1 - - ORDINANCE NO. 1859_. - (Published in the Salina Evening Journal June �.Z , 1915.) An ordinance providing for the appointment of a City Attorney, specifying his duties and- fiking his compensation, and repealing Ordinance -No: 1758, passed and approved May 18, 1914, and so much of Ordinance No.'10971passed and approved September 16, 1901, as is in conflict herewith. Be it ordained by the Mayor and Councilmen of the City of Salina: Section 1. The Mayor may appoint be and with the consent of the Council, a City Attorney, who shall hold his office for one year, and until his successor is appointed and qualified; providing that the term of his office, shall, in each case, expire at the next regular City Election following his appointment and qualification. Sec. 2. Sec. 2. That it shall be the duty of the City Attorney to attend all cases in the Police Court, when he is notified by the Po- lice Judge, the officer making the arrest, or the complaining witness so to do; to att6nd all cases in. the District Court or in any of the higher courts wherein the City is interested or is a party; to attend all regular meetings of the City Council and all special and adjourned meetings, when so requested by the Mayor or Acting Mayor; to draw ord- inances when so requested by the Mayor and Council, or the Chairman of any committee of the Council. Sec. 3. It shall be the duty of the City Attorney to give legal advice to the Mayor and Council or the chairman of any committee of the Council or other city officer, and, whenever so requested, shall reduce his opinion to writing, and it shall be his further duty to draw any contract or other writing necessary to the prosecution of the business of the City. Sec. 4. If in any case the City Attorney shall refuse or neglect to perform any of the duties aforesaid, he shall forfeit double the amount required to pay for the work so refused or neglected, which sum shall be deducted from his salary. Sec. 5. The salary of the City Attorney of the City of Salina shall be One Thousand 1,000_r.00) Dollars, per annum, payable monthly as other claims againyt�, it are°°L� which shall be in full com- pensation for his services as suC;, however, that for all business and cases outside of Saline County, conducted by him, he shall be allowed a reasonable compensation, to be agreed upon by the Mayor and Council before such services are performed. Sec. 6. That Ordinance No. 1758, passed and approved May 18, 1914, being an ordinance entitled, "An ordinance fixing the compensa- tion of the City Attorney, and repealing Ordinance No. 771, passed and approved May 25r; 1891", and so much of Section #2 of {ordinance No. 1097, passed and approved September 16, 1901, being an ordinance entitled, 303 I", "An ordinance providing for the salary of the Police Judge and relat- ing to fines and costs in the Police Court, and repealing Ordinance No. 909", as relates to the taxing of any fees or costs for the City Attorney by the Police Judge, are each and both of them hereby re- pealed. See. 7. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after July 15th, 1915, and its publication once in The Salina Eve- ning Journal. Passedand approved, June 21, 1915.
