1851 Appoint City AttorneyAn orciinanee providing for the apporitinent of a Citi attorney,
specifying his duties and fixing his'compensation,-and repealing Ord-
inance No. 1758; 'passed and_ approved, May 18, -1914, and $o' much of
Ordinance No. 1097, passed and approved September 16, 1901, as is in
conflict herewith.
Be it ordained by the Mayor and Councilmen of the City of Salina:
Section 1. The 'Mayor may appoint, by and with'the consent of
the Council, a City Attorney' who shall hold his office for one year,
and'until his successor is appointed and qualified; providing that the
term of his office.. shall, in each case, expire at the next regular
City Election following his appointment and qualification.
See. 2. That it shall be the duty of the City Attorney to attend
all cases in the Police Court, when he is notified by the Police Judge,
the officer making the arrest, or the complaining witness so to do;
to attend all cases in the district count or in any of the higher courts
wherein the City is interested or is a party; to attend all regular
meetings of the City Council, and all special and adjourned meetings,
when so requested by the Mayor or Acting Mayon; to drwa ordinances when
so requested by the Mayor and Council, or the chairman of any committee
of the Council.
See. 3. It shall be the duty of the City Attorney to give legal
advice to the Mayor -and Council, or the chairman 'of any committee of
the Council or other city officer, and, whenever so requested, shall
reduce his opinion to writing.,, and it shall be his further duty to
draw any coiatract or other writing necessary t o the prosecution of the
business of the City.
Sec. 4. If in any case the City Attorney ahall refuse or neglect
to perform any of the duties aforesaid, he shall forfeit double the
amount required to pay for the work so refused or neglected, which
sum shall be deducted from his salary.
Sec. 5. The salary of the City Attorney of the City of Salina,
shall be Ten Hundred Dollars, ($1,000.00) per annum, payable monthly,
as other claims against the City are payable, which shall be in full
compensation for his services as such; Provided, however, that for
all business and cases outside of Saline County, Kansas, conducted by
him, he shall be allowed reasonable compensation., to be agreed upon.

ORDINANCE N 0 . 1851.
An ordinance providing for the appointment of a City Attorney,

the taxing of any fees or costs for the City Attorney by the Police
Judge, are each and both of them hereby repealed.
Sec . 7. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from
