1834 Improve Eleventh StreetMAY ORDINANCE, N0.,•- 1834. - _ -- - - --- - -------- - _ (Published in the Salina Evening Journal Anri1 jz!:Z � 1915_ 253: An ordinance=`epcifying and selecting the paving material to be used, and letting the- contract for the paving and excavating of cer- tain portions of Eleventh street in the city of Salina. WHEREAS, under the provisions of Ordinance No. 1820, passed and approved February 15, 1915, the mayor and council determined to pave and excavate Eleventh Street, in the city of Salina, between the south line of Walnut street and the north line of South Street; and, WHEREAS, plans and specifications for the making of said improve- ments have been made by the city enginneer and filed with the city clerk as provided in said Ordinance No. 1820; and the same have been adopt- ed and approved by the mayor and council; and, WHEREAS, proposals for doing.such paving.and excae ting have been filed with the city clerk, and such proposals have been examined by the mayor and council and the proposal or bid of Watts & Amerman is hereby found and determined to be -the most satisfactory proposal for the kind and character of pavement hereinafter designated and select- ed, and that the prices named in such proposal are found to be less than the estimated cost of such improvements as heretofore made by the city engineer and now on file with the city clerk; therefore, Be it ordained by the Mayor and Councilmen of the City of Salina: Section 1. -The mayor and coudail hereby determine that said Eleventh Street, between the south line of Walnut Street and the north line of South Street shall be paved with one -course of vitrified, verti- cal fiber, side wire cut, Buffalo brick block paving material, as specif ied in the spec if icat ions of the city engineer f iled by him with the city clerk on the 15th day of March 1915, and such paving material as aforesaid., laid on a five inch concrete base, as specified, is here- by and selected as the material with which said street shall be paved. Sec. 2. That a contract be and is hereby let to Watts & Amer- man, of Salina, Kansas, for the paving and excavating of said street, at and for the uniform price of one and 72/100 dollars, ($1.72) per square yard for the square yards of such pavement, with a concrete base, as specified, actually laid on said streets and for the excavating ne- cessary to properly construct such pavement,.said contractors shall be paid at the rate of thirty-three cents (33¢) per cubic yard for the cubic yards of dirt actually removed from said street, all as computed and measured by the city engineer. Sec. 3. That such contract is awarded upon the express condition that the work and improvement thus awarded shall be done in strict ac- cordance with the specifications of the city engineer therefor, which are hereby made a part of this ordinance and of the contract hereby �54 awarded; and upon the further condition, among. others, that the said Watts & Amerman shall within ten (10) days from this date execute a writ- ten contract with the city, and give to the city a surety bond in the approximate sum of the cost of such improvements, guaranteeing such pave- ment against all defects for the period of five years, after such pav- Ing shall be accepted by said City.
