Published in the Salina Journal u e 1913 AN ORDINANCE amending Section three (3) of Ordinance No. 1480, passed nd approved April 19, 1909, and amending Ordinance No. 1538, passed and ap- roved February 21, 1910, and repealing said Section three (3) of said Ordinanc No. 1480 and said Ordinanace No. 1538. Be it ordained by the Mayor and Councilmen!:of the City of Salina: Section 1. That section three (3) of Ordinance No. 1480', entitled, "An Ordinanace relating to the Fire Department of the'City of Salina, providing penalties fore the violation here5f, and repealing Ordinances numbered 281, 559 and 842," passed and approved April 19, 1909, be and is hereby amended to read as follows: Sec. 3. The employees of the fire department shall be class- ified and graded as follows, to -wit: Class 1. to be composed only of employees who have served three (3) or more months continuously as regular members of said department: Class 2, to be composed of mem- hers who have served less than three months in said department. And no person shall be deemed eligible to appointment as a memeber of said department until he shall have passed such mental and physical i6zamimation as the fire chief shall require, and shall have demon- strated to the fire chief that he is fully capable of discharging the duties thereof by a trial service of not less than.thirty days. Employees engaged for non -continuous or partial service shall not be attached to either class above named;__bdt shall receive such com- pensation as shall be agreed upon at the time of employment, not in excess of that allowed employees of Class 2. When any employee shall be absent from duty by permission of the fire chief, or by reason of illness or injuries received, the fire.chief, may, if deemed necessary, after consultation with the mayor and, at least, two memebers of the Fire Department Committee of the Council, ap- point a'substitute for such absentee, and such substitute, while employed, shall, if paid by the city, be rated.as of Class 2, ex- cept that if such substitute be an ex -member of Class 1, then and in that event he may be rated and paid while so employed, as of the class to which he had formerly been attached. Sec. 2. That sectio nSl"i "of�rZli-n e „-No. 1538, passed and approves February 21, 1910, be amended so a"s to read as f lows, viz; Sec. 1. That Section six (6) of Ordinanace No. 1480, be- ing and Ordinance entitled, "An Ordinance relating to the fire de- partment of the city of Salina, the prevention of fires, providing penalties for violation hereof, and repealing ordinances numbered 281, 559 and 842," passed and approved April 19, 1909, be amended and is hereby amended to read as follows, towit: 1 1 0 1 1 "Sec. 6. The fire chief shall receive as fullr:com- pensation for all of his duties and services as such a sal- ary of one thousand eighty ($1080.00) dollars per annum; and the other members of said fire department shall be paid the following sAlaries, to -wit: Firemen of the first-class, each, per annum, $720.00; firemen of the second class, each, per annum, .600.00; all to be paid monthly as other bills against said city are presented and paid. Sec. 3. That section three (3� of Ordinance No. 1480, and all of Ordin- nce No. 1534 eb and each of them are hereby repealed. Sec. 4.
