1718 Regulating Street RailwaysC] i _0 R _ D:t. I N A ._N CE NO.- _ 1718 AN ORDINANCE regulating the operation of street railways in the City o Salina, and providing penalties for the violation hereof. Be it ordained by the Mayor and Councilmen,of the City of Salina: Section 1. That any person, partnership, company or corporation owning or operating any line of street railway in the city of Salina shall supply and equip the cars thereof with proper sized fenders, and use the same on such cars. - Sec. 2. That the following rules and regulations concerning the run- ning of street railway cars shall be binding upon and be observed by every Berson, partnership, company or corporation, and agents, servants or employes of the same, in the City of Salina: First. No cars, whin not in actual use for prassenger service, or travel, shall be kept standing in any street or other thoroughfare. Second. No street railway car shall be drawn or propelled at a greater rate of speed than ten miles per hour on Santa Fe Avenye between Ash and '':'al - nut Streets, or at a greater rate of speed than twenty miles per. -hour in any other part of the city. Third. No car shall be drawn or propelled at a greater rate of speed than four (4) miles per hour while turning the corners from one street to an- other. Fourth. No car shall be allowed to stop on the crosswalks, except- to avoid collisions, or,to prevent danger to persons in the street. Fifth. `'he conductor or motorman of any car, and:. the person operating the motor of any car or tr<::in or cars, shall keep a vigilant watch for all. venicles and persons on foot, especially children, either on the track or moving towards it, and on the first appearance of danger to such persons or vehicles, the cars shall be stopped in the shortest -.space possible. Sixth. Conductors or motormen shall not allow ladies and children to leave or enter the car while the same is in motion. Seventh. Conductors or motormen shall announce to passengers the name~ of the streets and the places where the cars connect with or intersent.any. other street railway line.; and shall also announce the name of'each street. crossing, at aleast, fifth feet before the car reaches said street crossing. Eighth. The motorman or conductor of every car shall remain at the front of the car and in charge of the motor while the car is in motion, and shall sound,a gong or alarm just before crossing any intersecting street. Ninth. All -cars after sunset shall be provided ,it.h and keep lighted suitable headlights. Tenth. All street railwayf-,,cars shall be brought to a full stop before crossing any other street railway track or any steam railway track in the city over which such street car line extends. 1 1 1 IPA g 1 1 Eleventh. No street car shall stop on -any street intersection, except to prevent accident; and all cars going north shall be stoped with the front platform at the south crossing; cars going south, with the front,_platform at the north crossing;.cars going west, with the front plateform at the east cross ing; and cars going east, with the f romt platform at the west crossing. Section 3. That any person, partnership, oompany or corporation owning or operating any street railway in the city of Salina, who shall fail, neglect or refuse to comply with the requirements and provisions of this ordinance, sha shall be deemed guilty of a violation of this ordinance, and each and every day that said person, partnership, company or corporation fails to comply with the requirements and provisions hereof shall be deemed and is hereby declared to be a distinct and separate offense and violation of this orainanace. Sec. 4. That any person, partnership, 'company or corporation, or the pr sident, superintendent, manager, agent, servant or employe thereof, who shall fail,neglect or,refuse to comply With any of the provisions.or!requirements of this ordinance, or who shall violate the same shall be deemed guilty of a mis- iemeanor, and upon conviction thereof in the Police Court, shall be fined in an um not exceeding one hundred dollars for each and every offense.
