Award of contract for the Bicentennial Center Storefront and
Vestibule (Airlock) Improvements, Project No. 94-908.
Background
This project involves the construction of two new 10' x 27'
storefronts/vestibules/airlOcks~at- the main entrances to the
Bicentennial Center. These facilities will provide the necessary
separation between the entrances to the building and the lobby
area. Advantages of this improvement include improved Climate
control (heating and air conditioning) in the building,
particularly the lobby area, and also wind control into andout of
the lobby area. This project was one of the primary
recommendations of the BiCenter Task Force Study of 1991.
Bids were received for this project on Tuesday, June 14, 1994 as
follow:
Bidder Bid Amount Schedule
Lancaster Construction Co.,Salina $85,348.00 June 27-Nov.2~, 1994
Porter Construction, Inc.,Salina 93,210.00 June 27-Dec.24, 1994
The Architect's estimate, provided by Jones-Gillam Architects, is
$98,751.00. Funds have been allocated for this project in the 1994
Capital Improvement Program from the BiCenter Fund. The total
budget amount is $60,000. The increase in cost over the!budget
amount can be attributed to an enhanced foundation design for the
airlock structure. The BiCenter Fund has an allowable balance to
absorb the cost increase.
