Attached is a policy on the use of city owned vehicles and for employees who drive
other vehicles on behalf of the City. It has been developed to be included as a part of
the City's Personnel Manual. The policy addresses the issue of driving records and
has long been requested by our auto insurance carriers. It establishes thresholds for
unacceptable driving records and clearly sets forth the procedures for dealing with an
employee who crosses that threshold. More importantly, it is very si~ecific about
speaking to the issue of giving each employee clear warning prior to denying that
employee's driving privileges. We feel it is an important step forward in limiting our
liability exposure in a very potentially dangerous area.
Recommended Action:
It is recommended that the attached Resolution #94-4748 be adopted today.
