6.2 Extend CATS AgreementCITY OF SALINA REQUEST FOR CITY COMMISSION ACTION DATE TIME 1/22/2007 4:00 P.M. APPROVED FOR AGENDA SECTION ORIGINATING DEPARTMENT: NO: 6 AGENDA: CITY MANAGER’S OFFICE ITEM NO. 2 BY: BY: Jason A. Gage, City Manager Page 1 ITEM: Resolution No. 07-6353, authorizin g the Mayor to enter into an agreement extension with Community Access Television of Salina, Inc. fo r public, educational and gov ernmental television programming services. BACKGROUND: The City entered into an agreement with Community Access Television of Salina, Inc. (CATS) to provide public, educational and gover nmental television programming se rvices to Salina in 1992. Since that time, both parties have executed agreement amendments in 1993, 1997 and 2002. The most recent agreement has a term that expires on February 3, 2007. Late last year, the City Commission discussed in a study session future agreement terms with CATS, in light of recent Kansas statutory changes eliminating local cable television franchise authority. Staff is working with CATS officials in prepar ing a revised agreement, but would like to utilize the next two months to complete this process. The proposed agreement with CATS provides for a continuation of services under the existing terms for a period ending April, 3 2007, which is in line with our cable television franchise termination. Staff expects to have a formal agreement for City Commission consideration prior to that time. FISCAL NOTE: The 2007 Annual Budget includes adequate franchise fee funding to support the agreement extension through the term of the City’s cable franchise agreement with Cox Communications. ALTERNATIVES and RECOMMENDED ACTION: Alternative #1: Approve Resolution No. 07-6353, aut horizing the Mayor to enter into an agreement extension with Community Access Television of Salina, Inc. Alternative #2: Do not approve Resolution 07-6353 at this time. Staff recommends Alternative #1. Enclosure: Agreement extens ion between the City and Community Access of Salina, Inc.
