6.3 Appr Gypsum Water Tower Pai CITY OF SALINA REQUEST FOR COMMISSION ACTION DATE TIME 06/05/95 4:O0 P.M. AGENDA SECTION: ORIGINATING DEPARTMENT: APPROVED FOR NO. 6 AGENDA: Engineering & Utilities ITEM ~.~,~ ~ NO. 3 BY: Don Hoff BY: Item Authorize the City Engineer to set a date to receive bids for the painting of the Gypsum Hill Water Tower (Project No. 94-912). Background The Gypsum Hill Water Tower was constructed in 1958 to serve the water supply requirements of east Salina. Until the recent completion of the Markley Tower this tank could not be removed from service for an extended period of time in order to perform major maintenance work, such as painting. This spring a through inspection of the tank was performed indicating the structural condition of the steel components was good but the existing paint coating was pealing and fading. Removal of the old paint coatings prior to repainting, however, will require special consideration due to the lead content of the type of paint used in 1958. We have retained Bucher, Willis & Ratliff as our consulting engineer to develop specifications to remove the old paint and repaint this 500,000 gallon tower. Recommendation It is recommended the City Commission authorize the City Engineer to set a date to receive bids for the Painting of Gypsum Hill Water Tower (Project No. 94-912).
