Authorize staff to reCeive bids for a hydraulic vertical wheelchair lift.
Background
From 1979 to 1985, floor seating was the only area made available to mobility
impaired patrons during arena events.
In 1986, a lift was purchased to make it possible to transport people up to the
mezzanine level. Section 105 was remodeled to create seating for nine
wheelchairs.
The Accessibility Advisory Board raised some concerns about the existing lift:
1. Slow speed
2. Noise of lift
3. Platform size
4. Capacity
Staff worked with many companies looking for a lift that would better meet the
needs of our patrons. The Accessibility Advisory Board heard our proposal at
their April 20 meeting. The board endorsed the project. Funds for this
equipment would come from the Bicentennial Center capital outlay budget. The
total amount is $20,0'00.
Recommended Action
Authorize staff to receive bids for a hydraulic vertical wheelchair lift.
