Award of contract for the 1995 Latex Modified Slurry Seal, Project
No. 95-927.
Background
This project is a major component of the 1995 Street Improvement
Program. This process has been successfully used in Salina for
more than ten years. Combined with proper joint and crack sealing,
the slurry seal program extends the service life of most asphalt
pavements by more than five years at a very minimal cost.
A list and map of the streets included in this year's program is
attached. The slurry seal program will directly follow the joint
and crack sealing program on the same streets. Approximately 15
lane miles of pavement will be treated with this project.
_Bids were received for the project on Tuesday, March 21, 1995 as
follow:

Ballou Construction Co., Inc. $364,145.00 June 1-July 1, 1995
The Engineer's estimate is $366,250.
The 1995 budget allocates $970,000 in special gas tax funds for the
1995 street improvement program. In addition to the slurry seal
project, other contract maintenance in 1995 will include crack
sealing, concrete rehabilitation, railroad crossing repair, and
manhole regrading.
RECOMMENDATION
It is reCommended that the City Commission award the contract for
the Latex Modified Slurry Seal Project No. 95-927 to Ballou
Construction Company, Inc. in the amount of $364,145.00.
