Approval of the 1995 Joint and Crack Sealing Project No. 95-926 and
authorization to set date to receive bids.
Background
This project is a significant part of the 1995 Street. Improvement
Program. Joint and Crack sealing is a co~fm~on pavement rehabili-
tation method used to prevent the penetration of water and
incompressible materials through openings in the asphalt pavement
surface. If water is allowed to permeate to the pavement subgrade,
failure of the pavement structure is inevitable. This crack
sealing process followed by the slurry seal program has proven to
extend the service life of most pavements by more than five years
at a very minimal cost.
A list and map of the streets included in this project is attached.
Approximately 15 lane miles of pavements will be treated with this
project.
The 1995 budget allocates $970,000 in special gas tax funds for the
1995 street improvement program. In addition to this project,
other contract maintenance in 1995 will include slurry seals,
concrete rehabilitation, railroad crossing repair and manhole
regrading.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Commission authorize the setting of
the date to receive bids for the 1995 Joint and Crack Sealing
Project No. 95-926.
