WHEREAS, The National Fire Protection Association has established October 5
through 11, 1980, as Fire Prevention Week, I, Dan Geis, Mayor of the
City of Salina, Kansas, proclaim this week IIFire Prevention Weekll in the
City of Salina, Kansas, and call upon all citizens to participate in the
Fire Prevention activities combining their talents with those of our Fire
Department. In this way, we can reduce our home and apartment fires
which are responsible for more than half of the annual toll of 12,622 fire
deaths in the United States and Canada.
WHEREAS, This week will again remind us of the AVERAGE DAILY property loss from
fire in the United States, which occurs in 1,855 homes--434 apartment
buildings--94 schools and college buildings--13 churches--226 stores and
offices--65 restaurants--142 industrial plants--and buildings on 82 farms.
The slogan for the 1980 Fire Prevention Week Poster is lIPartners in Fire
Preventionll. This slogan should call our attention to the fact that fire
prevention is everybody.s business in order to stop fires and save lives.
We should plan our escape from fire and learn not to burn. Fire Prevention
Week 1980 is the time for a sDecial effort to increase everyone1s awareness
of fire safety and practice fire prevention.
