Award of contract for Water Distribution Improvements, Project No. 96-978.
BACKGROUND
This project includes the replacement of approximately 1,500 L.F. of 6" watermaln on Wesley
St. between Belmont Blvd. and Wayne Avenue. Frequent breaks in the existing watermaln have
caused interruption to traffic and to the water supply to our customers along this section of street.
Soil conditions in this area are extremely corrosive to the unprotected cast iron pipeline installed
approximately 40 years ago.
Bids were received for this project on Tuesday, November, 12, 1996 as follows:

Smoky Hill, LLC $139,130 Feb. 15, 1997 - 120 days
Engineer's Estimate $119,430
Funding for this project was included in the 1996 Capital Outlay account for water and
wastewater system enhancements.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Commission award the contract for the Water Distribution
Improvements, Project 96-978, to Stevens Contractors, Inc., Salina, Kansas, in the amount of
$118,400.
