Approval of the Crawford Street/Marymount Road Intersection Improvements, Project No. 96-969
and authorization to establish a bid date for the project.
BACKGROUND
The Crawford Street/1Vlarymount Road Intersection Improvement Project is included in the 1996
Capital Improvement Program. The project includes signalization of the intersection and some minor
pavement improvements on the south leg of the intersection. The signal system will be similar to
others recently installed, for instance the Ohio Street/North Street intersection or the Crawford
Street/Centennial Road intersection. The system will include fully actuated, multi-plmse signals with
protective/permissive left turn signals on Crawford Street. This signal system is expected to improve
the safety of the intersection, reduce the delay to motorists and provide the necessary right-of-way
to traffic on Marymount Road at Crawford Street, at which traffic volumes continue to grow at
significant rates.
The City Engineering Department has completed the design of these improvements including
complete plans and specifications. Assuming a successful bid letting for the project, the installation
of signals could begin in late 1996 with completion anticipated in early 1997. The 1996 budget
allocates $120,000 in funds from the Capital Improvement Program.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Commission approve the Crawford StreetfMarymount Road
Intersection Improvements, Project No. 96-969 and authorize staff to establish a bid date for the
project.
